New Documents Reveal Saddam Hid WMD, Was Tied to Al Qaida

It's late 2005. Five years later. Osama bin Laden is STILL ALIVE. Why? Ask the administration that.

I did ask and found out from a close friend and secret operative within the CIA that OBL is dead and we have replaced him with a double. The double is directing the crazyness in France. Oh..the plot thickens.

This is certainly an issue to watch. It would explain much if the report turns out to be factually accurate and validate one of the rationals for going to war with Iraq. Should it prove inaccurate I'm not sure what effect it will have.

Cognitive dissonance is not your friend.

These documents are not translated yet (according to the OP). So, if they go public now, and it turns out that these documents say exactly the opposite of what the President wants, he's called a liar. If he doesn't release them immediately (read: before they are translated) then he's hiding something and they must be faked. Of course, if these documents turn out to be supportive of the president, the opposition will simply claim the same thing as some of the above posters: Bush made all this up. No, wait, he's too stupid to do that. Oh, it must have been Rove and Cheney. But, why are these just being found now? Um, if you're asking that question, you are one of two things: 1) Just looking for any way to discredit something that shakes what you believe (ala cognitive dissonance) or 2) Not understanding that even though you get news 24/7, it is not possible to search an entire country in 1 year.

As for the collusion between the Iraqi leadership and al Qaeda, don't overlook the FACT that Saddam was sending personal checks to the families of Palestinian suicide bombers.

Palestinian suicide bombers don't blow themselves up in the USA, so I really couldn't care less about that.

and they won't.

Kinda like why the IRA declared the US of A offlimits. I would only hurt their cause. The Palestinian suicide bombers are well organized, well-planned events. Not some bum rushing to be the first on his or her block to blow themselves up for Allah.

Oh, and anyone can goof around with Ricin. Even YOU! In your very own kitchen. Just grind up some castor beans. duh. A memo about ricin is great...how about one bean? I haven't seen the Administration push even so much as one magic bean in front of a camera.

heck, in my house, I have a document titled..."How to birth calves". Its from a magazine on homesteading. I neither have a cow, nor a homestead. But I am sure that I am violating some law in some town, in some place, and that will be a sure admission of guilt.

Show me a bean, and i'll believe it.

Or more likely find some way to claim it was a fake. This seems to be the tactic on both sides.

New fact emerges. Opposing side discredits source for some reason or another. It's a great trick, but an old one.

It would be pretty difficult to discredit ALL the major news entities opening the doors on a big huge warehouse filled to the brim with the "hidden" stockpile of chemical weapons AND nuclear weapons AND Nuclear weapons facilities that we were promised we would find in our stocking. Think the end of Raiders of the Lost Ark. Gee, lookie what we found!!! But we got nothin. Not even a lump of coal with it's promise of a diamond. Not even a castor bean.

Keep in mind that I consider this a diversion from our original goal: Osama. I didn't like Saddam, and I am very very glad to see Uday dead--the world is indeed a better place, but this is NOT Osamas head on a pike in central park.
Thats what the american people want, and in truth, its what we deserve.

Osama Bin Laden = Emmanuel Goldstein.

Either he's already dead or they don't want to catch him.

The Newsmax article is a teaser for the Weekly Standard article in a genuine paper magazine. Done all the time by the MSM so how come its bad using the alternative media.

What I want to watch is how the story of the story plays out in the media. I want to see how the story developes over time. Then I will watch how the various political camps react to reportage in various media channels. There is a reason why Bush has done nothing to justify his actions in the absence of WMD's being found. Don't know what the reason is but there is one. I'm not inclined to think the ultimate reason is conducive to life, liberty, property of the taxpaying class.

I put this WMD story in the same category as the Able Danger story. There is something deep, dark, and bad lurking in the background.

Jeff White: "The next couple administrations will look at what the war in Iraq did to the Bush administration and steadfastly refuse to project American power. It took from 1975 until 1989 before we decisively used military force. It may be longer this time, the country is too politicized. "

Exactly. And that's why we've been the target of terrorists from 1975 on. Once they saw that we were weak, it was open season.

While the Bush administration certainly deserves criticism for handling of this war, the American people also deserve criticism for wanting a "microwave war" that's over and settled in a matter of weeks.

Where are all of the flags that were flying from homes, cars and trucks after 9/11?

The MSM posts daily casualty counts the same way they post football scores, except that there's no agenda behind the football scores.

At this point, it almost doesn't seem to matter what new info on pre-war Iraq comes out ... the war is a fait accompli; most folks will still continue to disregard any substantive evidence which may be contrary to their own beliefs ... many here would prefer to believe our government lied, involved us in the war on a false pretext and that our government is corrupt ...

Rather like those who still believe O.J. is innocent ... in spite of all the DNA evidence, Nicole and Goldman's blood on the sock and in his vehicle, etc... It's much more fun to believe the LAPD framed O.J.

I know US citizens who speak various Arabic, Turkish, and Urdu who have applied for jobs as translators and have heard nothing from the government. I don't know what the priorities of our government are.

When does this Weekly Standard article come out?

And, how is it you know that htis is a teaser for said WS article?

(Not trying to be arguementative - I'm genuinely curious)

Newsmax credits Weekly Standard in the article. I went to the Weekly Standard website and saw it was scheduled for paper publication which is on the street now.

As far as being a teaser, the technique is quite common. Paper mag breaks a major story and is teased by an article on broadcast news, newspaper, or talk radio. Helps the publisher of the story increase unit sales. Outlet doing the teasing gets to claim a "breaking story." The story's author is making the rounds of talk radio and no doubt cable.

It will really be interesting to see if the story gets legs and results in a number of outlet across the political divide pursuing it. In view of the current all out political offensive by the Democrats one would think this is big news.

I did a google search for the author, Stephen Hayes. His credibility as a journalist has been questioned. Links to articles about him can be found using Google.

Until the Pentagon or someone else credible seconds there are documents such as these in existence, I highly doubt this story.

As for declaring war, the US has not officially declared war on anyone since World War II.

I replaced mine with a Confederate one after the multiple pat-downs I kept getting (along with the wife and kids) at the hands of a bunch of TSA fedthugs. I'm starting to get used to it and like it (the flag, I mean, not the TSA).

Edit to stay on topic...

I always wondered why Shwartzkopf (sp?) was so worried about Saddam having a nuke in the desert during the 1st Gulf war. In retrospect, it seems ridiculous with what little we've found so far. Then again, he doesn't seem like the kind of guy who would put out THAT much B.S. during an interview. That's one statement I have the hardest time reconciling...

Z Infidel..Thanks for the link.

I'm not so sure that finding WMDs would have silenced the Democratic opposition to the war. Many hate Bush with a passion. It sometimes seems to me that they would rather weaken the war effort and provide backhanded support for our enemies, if it resulted in a weakened Bush. Of course, the news media is willing to help pull Bush down. That said, Bush creates much of his own misery. If WMDs are found, it will take dead test rabbits and live TV demonstrations before those opposed to Bush will admit that they exist. Even then, there will be suggestions that the items found were plants. Best just get the elections over with and start the phased pullout. Bush is so weakened that I can't imagine that he will be able to deal with Iran.
