I have a new toy; a Competition Electronics Digital Chronograph. I've had it a few weeks but the weather has been rainy and I don't want to get stuck in the mud up in the hills, so I haven't had a chance to try it. Yesterday I got tired of wanting to try the chrony so I found some "sub-sonic" Remington 22 LR ammo and shot a stack of magazines, taped together, over the chrony. 840 fps. (shot in my shed behind the house). Sunny today but I gotta fix a leak, well, kinda bummed so I put some more magazines on the stack (about 8"thick) and tried out a new load of my 9mm ammo (125 gr RNFP, 17 BHN, .357",over a starting load of W231). 887 fps outta my LC9s-Pro (little over 3" barrel). Bullet penetrated 2"-2 1/4" and retained weight was 101 gr from a starting 124.5 gr.
Now to most reloaders my data means nothing, and not a whole lot to me either and I doubt if I'll be attacked by a stack of magazines soon, but I got an idea of velocity and it was fun! I don't think I'll shoot any of my .44 magnum loads or my Garand loads in the shed, neighbors may get excited.
Now I have to add a line on my reload data labels; "Velocity"...
