ALL of my deer in the past decade have been with open sights. And so far I've been blessed with at least one white tail per year. Your .30-30 and the use of a ground blind will work well. Pay attention to the wind direction. You will have a better chance at seeing them and having them in close in areas where the wind isn't taking your scent to them.
Depending on the climate, if it's under 50 degress, especially if there has been rain through the night, or it's still raining a bit... the deer will need to eat during the daylight. Yes, even in the early afternoon. The deer can only stay warm by eating, and the colder and wetter it is, the more food they need to take in, and their tummy only holds so much. Sure, in high wind and heavy, driving rain, they will cluster and huddle in thick brush to break the wind and conserve heat... but they will need to come out. Stay put, all day, no break for lunch, hunt from dawn until you can't see your rifle's sights, and you will get a shot or two.
Last but not least, ...you probably know this so forgive me if I state the obvious..... after you make the shot, and the deer moves off, especially if it's right at sundown, give the deer about 15 minutes before you go a trackin' it. That way if it has a mortal wound, but you didn't drop it in its tracks, it will lay down close to where you hit it, and you can collect it. If you move too soon, and you spook it, you might get a "death dash" from your deer of about 100 yards or more, and in fading light with a .30 caliber hole you may not get much of a blood trail if it runs.
