I went to the Valley Forge Pa Gun Show yesterday with the intentions of purchasing a .308 bolt rifle. Well I found a Rem 700 LTR for $1200... to much. Same guy had Rem 700 SPS going for $599.... still to much. Savage 10FP was located for $599, used. Way to much. Finally I found what I was looking for....
A GSG-5!!!!! I know, 2 totally different beasts, but I could not help myself expecially once I held it and and started messing with it. Then I noticed they had 15 rd factory mags now!!!! Sales guy traded out the 22rd for the 15rd (nj safe) mags and I walked away after the paperwork.
My buddy and I took it to the range instantly after crossing the river back to NJ. We put 250 rounds of mixed bag, about 155 Win Dynapoints, 30 CCI Stinger, 15 Rem Velocitor and 60 Rem Yellow Jackets. The gun ate everything and there were not failures. It loved the Dynas, good accuracy out to 50yds, standing offhand. It really liked the Stingers and the Yellow Jackets. We blew right through the mags, could not reload an empty mag faster then the other was being unloaded. My friend and I were grinning from ear to ear. It was really funny how much enjoyment we got from that little rifle. People were coming over to look at it, some different people shot it and it really was a sweet little item on the line.
I like the construction, it think it is well put together, fit and finish are good. The materials are first rate and the design is spot on. Ease of use is top notch, the package came with a collapsible tool set, additional sights and a thorough user guide.
It totally outshines and made me ignore the FN PBR XP .308 with 20" fluted barrel I picked up yesterday also. It's only money!!!
