Sorry for the late response. I’ve owned a Gen 3 G23 for a few years now but have recently bought a Gen 5 G23 I only have about 300 rounds through it now but back to back shooting I much prefer my gen 5. I hand load all my 40s&w on the warm side and the gen 5 handles it noticeably better no need for a heavier recoil spring. I also have had some feeding issues with 180g berry’s flat nose bullets in my G23 but the Gen 5 has eaten them all so far. They are my reloads so not blaming me gen 3. Short story long I’m enjoying my new gen 5 but will never part with my gen 3 FDE 23

As those that already stated it, yes the slide is thicker on the Gen 5 G23 due to the fact that Glock went back to using just two pins versus three pins.

IME the 23.5 works just fine in my JMCK kydex holsters, as did my 23RTF, as has my 19.5 and as does my G45

YMMV,
Keith

I believe all Glock 40 s&w magazines will interchange but the older 1-3 magazines were not designed for left handed mag release. My gen 3 came with newer style magazines for reversable mag release

Yes any Glock magazine will work. The main difference is that Gen 1-3 magazines do not have the cutout for use with ambi releases. This will only be an issue if one reversed the ambi mag release on Gen 4-5 pistols.

Not an engineering expert here but I do own a G19 gen2/3.I say 2/3 because my gen 2 frame cracked after 100+ rds.It was one pin and cracked by the locking block.Glock replaced it with a gen 3.I'm surprised Glock went with one pin in a new model.

The dual spring recoil spring assembly of the Gen 4 and 5 make s a difference when compared to the single spring recoil spring assembly in the Gen 1-3.

If the gen 5 23’s wind up having issues handling recoil I’ll know fairly soon. I’ll not cut it any slack it only get underwood 165 gold dots and comparable hand loads.

My Gen 5 has been flawless, and I've gotten one hole groups at 7 yards with it, but beyond 10 yards, it is not impressive as far as accuracy.

Had a guy offer me $700 for it at the gun shop the other day and was tempted. I just can't seem to get mine to shoot well at 25 yards.

Getting 1" groups at 25 yards is fun and confidence building, 2" or better is acceptable. 3"+ is embarrassing.

So is the gen 5 22/23/27 more durable with the thicker slide? I was looking at them, or pick up an older gen 3? I was specifically looking at the 27.

What if any is the advantage of a 2 pin frame over a 3, which would justify a change like this to a very successful model line?

The reason for the third pin originally was to deal with the extra recoil and battering of the frame when shooting 40 S&W and 357 Sig. The Gen 3 and 4 40/357 slides are the same length and width as the 9mm slides. Which makes the 40/357 slides slightly lighter since the breech face and barrel opening (nose of slide) are bigger. It was found that frames were cracking with only two pins.

The reason for going back to 2 pins on the Gen 5 is that Glock made the 40/357 slides wider and heavier to deal with the recoil and keep the frame from getting battered. There was never a need for the third pin on 9mm pistols.
