Woot! We all love New Gun Day, right?

I don't buy and sell much, but I sold the Colt Peacekeeper for which I created a thread in Revolvers and put the funds towards a new Smith & Wesson M&P Shield 9mm. (I'm not going to post pictures, because it's NIB and looks just like every other Shield out there.) I've registered for S&W's Super Summer Hideout giveaway, which should net me 2 extra mags, 2 boxes of ammo and a magazine loader. I also ordered 3 more mags from Sportsman's Outdoor Superstore* for $15 apiece. I also ordered a Stealthgear Revolution IWB mini. All I lack is a mag pouch and a couple of range trips and I'll be ready to start carrying her!

*=I've never dealt with the company before, but compared to other prices, that was a steal. It can be found here.

I am liking mine more every time I shoot it. It is on a "gun magnet" on the leg of the end table by my chair, all I have to do is drop my arm over the side of my chair. I had been keeping an XDm OSP there, but am getting some quality time with the new Shield.

Sound like you had not only New Gun Day but New Accessories and New Ammo to go with the New Gun! Congrats on a great choice in a CCW gun.
That I did! I've wanted to get a Shield (or one of its competitors) for carry for quite some time, so I had a pretty good idea about all the peripheral stuff that goes with getting a new carry gun (holsters, available rebates, ammo, . . . ). I even walked out of Academy Sports having paid ~$30 less (after taxes) than the shelf price. As the old eBay ad used to say, "I shopped victoriously."

Do you like that magnet? Does it work well? I've wondered about those for years, but have never known anyone who had one.

I just finished the first cleaning & lube. Inner lever down, outer lever down, slip the slide off the frame . . . Pretty straightforward. Decided to go ahead and load my mags for my first range trip, which I hope will be soon. Dagnabbit, the last round was hard to get into each magazine! Hopefully leaving those loaded for a week or two will loosen that up a bit, since S&W says it will take 8-10 weeks before I get my mag charger.

I sold my 9 and picked up a 45. Both are great guns. The 45 feels better in my hand and isn't much more to handle in terms of recoil.

IMHO the shield is a great gun. I immediately felt comfortable with it and with the trigger. It shoots naturally for me with good tight centered groups and it's seen more than a few boxes of ammo with no FTF's or FTE's. Almost as nice to shoot as my tanfoglio CZ clones but more reliable.

congrats on your new shield I like mine too, it is a good time to buy new guns prices are low and promotions are plenty

I do. I now have one in the FJ as well. Holds the gun just fine. It's rubber coated, so is fairly easy on the gun. I assume with a lot of off/on it could mark the finish after awhile, but hey, it's a working gun.

There are a million choices in magnets. I just guessed and tried this one. Works well.

Thanks, Walkalong. I've been considering one (or more) of those for quite some time.

Congrats on your new Shield Spats McGee.:)
I've posted before that I had "one of its competitors" (a Glock 43) that I traded for my Shield. I have not looked back - my Shield is just as reliable, and unlike the Glock 43 I tried so hard to like, my Shield doesn't wrench my 69 year old wrist and pinch my trigger finger every time it goes off.

I've been carrying mine daily for the last couple of years. Use the seven round mag in the summer and 8 rounder in cooler weather. You are going to be surprised at how soft it shoots. I have over 600 yards through mine and shoot it just as well as a full sized gun out to about twenty yards or so.

Shield in FJ on the magnet. Under and too the right of steering column. (Foot is on brake pedal, accelerator is just showing under grip) Dusty brown box has a knife in it. There is also a knife in the door pocket, and in a pocket between the seats, and stuck beside the steering column (You can see the tassel hanging from it), and a three foot six sided hollow aluminum bar (From a Hoya lift) in the back.

I was able to sneak out to the range today. I originally intended to shoot more than I did, but I only had 100 rounds with me, and I didn't feel like paying range prices for ammo when I have ammo I bought in bulk sitting at home. Besides, I hold the Sunday Afternoon Nap to be sacrosanct. Anyway, she's a sweet little shooter. Zero malfunctions, and the recoil is surprisingly mild for such a little pistol. As little as I like mag extensions being used as part of the grip, I was able to definitively determine that I prefer the grip on the Shield with an 8-round mag over its grip with a 7-rouind mags.

I take full and sole responsibility for the shooting. I shot a total of 39 rounds into each of the top targets (four 8-round mags and one 7-round mag), and the remaining 22 rounds out of my 100 into the bottom one. Shield.JPG 1stShieldTarget.JPG

An update: Delivery of S&W's Super Summer Hideout goodies took a little longer than the 8-10 weeks initially predicted, but my stuff (two 8-round magazines, 2 boxes of Hornady Critical Defense, and a Caldwell Mag Charger) arrived last week. The mag charger is this one, and I think it's a pretty slick deal. I've never used anything like it, but it sure simplifies loading those new-&-stiff Shield mags. I've been carrying her in that StealthGear Revolution IWB Mini, and have a DeSantis double mag pouch on the way.
