new gun

just got me a new springfield armory 1911 .45 acp. It has never been fired but apperas to be an old gun!!!!!... in the booklet it talks about a competition in 1988 and it comes in a white springfield cardboard box. I believe it is the home defender model, got it for $550 anyone know anything about this one and did I over pay? I love it so far, sooooo accurate and the forged steel/wooden grips give it a nice look.

1988 is an old gun? I graduated undergrad that year.
