Hello:

Wanted to say howdy, now that someone let me know about THR. I didn't know about it until this week, but then, I've been all over the place. Always the last to know!

Guns & Ammo magazine has just started taping for a new TV show which will be much like the printed magazine. The show will be on the Outdoor Channel, beginning in July. I'm the host.

We spent last week in Cody, Wyoming, at the Buffalo Bill Historical Center, getting a lot of good historical pieces.

Next week we'll be just south of Quincy, IL, at Pasa Park (home of The Masters), doing a lot of shooting and hands-on gun stuff.

I'm sure I won't be here as often as I'd like, but I'll drop in from time to time. Good conversations here.

I would also invite everyone to tune in to my radio show on Sunday afternoons (2-5:00pm Eastern). If you can't get it locally, you can listen on the web cast. Worst case, you can check out the archived shows on the web site? www.guntalk.net.

I'll be mentioning THR on the show. I used to push TFL, so I'm glad to have a place to direct the listeners.

Looking forward to the discussions.

Well Howdy back at Ya, this is the best news that I have heard all day! I read Guns & Ammo as well, and wish you show the very best! A new TV gun show? I must be dreaming:what:

Welcome to THR ;) But my cable provider doesn't have OLN either :cuss: What's wrong w/ a more mainstream channel like...oh ESPN 3? :what:

Good News

Great Tom

I am a big fan of your radio program, and I am happy to say that my cable company just added OLN to it's line up!!!! I can't wait to see it

What's wrong w/ a more mainstream channel like...oh ESPN 3?

since this has been covered several times (for older hunting/firearms shows ), on a couple of other shooter's forums, i think i can answer this.

It's for the same reason that American shooter is on OLN instead of ESPN, EPSN's management had some severe Anti-gun issues. remember ESPN is NOT run by sportsmen, it's run by "TV exectutives" they don't care about sports beyound it being a cash cow.

Also they started running beer ads in the middle of shooting shows, :what: NOT an association (alchohol and firearms together) that those of us who wish to promote shooting as a responsible sport, want to ever see promoted, even by accident!!

i don't know much about the "managment level" (IE network big wigs) of OLN but from what i have seen their choice in programing seems to reflect an actual interest in those things that their channel promotes. (the louis vitton Cup yacht racing coverage could go though!! :scrutiny:

New TV Show?

Well, if you have a Coopers Corner segment I'll personally make sure everyone in my neighborhood tunes in!

OLN and Outdoors Channel are different.

On DirecTV OLN is ch. 608. Outdoor Channel is ch 606 and you have to have the Sports Package to get it!!!

OUTDOOR CHANNEL, not OLN

It's the Outdoor Channel, not OLN. OLN used to be called the Outdoor Life Network, but that's another network.

The Outdoor Channel is on Dish and Direct TV satellite systems, and on many cable systems, but not all.

Also, the Oudoor Channel shows real hunting, and doesn't mind showing guns whidh are used for self-defense. None of the other channels will allow this, I'm told.

The production company is actually the In Fisherman folks. That outfit, and G&A, are owned by Primedia. Those guys are in Brainard, MN.

We started late on production to get this on the air in July, so we are hustling. Cody last week, Illinois next week. We'll be shooting a bunch of new guns for the Illinois shoot.

Then to California. I think we will be able to get into the Gene Autry museum -- lots of neat guns there.

Should be fun.

The Outdoor Channel can be gotten 'a-la-carte' from DirecTV. You don't have to get the entire sports package. They don't say so on their website but I called and asked and they let me add just the Outdoor Channel for $2.

:p

The Outdoor Channel is available ala carte on the Dishnetwork too.

Tom, with your dad be on as well? I can remember watching him years ago on, I believe, the American Sportsman.

Terry:

We plan to have Dad on the show, but don't know what he'll be doing.

This is so new, we are making it up as we go!

Yes, he was on The American Sportsman for years. Then on Sports Afield TV show. Then on "Chevy Trucks Shooting Sports America." That's when I started working with him on TV.

He and I work together. In fact, his office is about 20 feet from me as I type this.

Of course, we both write for Guns & Ammo.
