Hello. Some of you may have read my posts before. I'm the recoil sensitive guy whose left hand is held together by 4 screws and my right wrist is fused. All this from car accident and arthritis. Hence my recoil sensitivity.

I was out of shooting for about 12 years. Now I'm back into it, but downgraded from 40 caliber guns to .380 or 9x18. Oddly enough, I feel just as well armed. I think two shots from a 9x18 +P or +P+ is just as good as one from a .40 cal. I think three shots from a .380 +P might be as good as one from a .40 cal. Good enough anyway. Thank God for CZ-83s, which are easy on recoil.

That said, I've always wanted a Makarov, but never got into those before because I was out of shooting for 12 years. I only recently bought my CZ-83s.

I always thought Bill Clinton was a decent guy. I didn't vote for him, but I thought he was OK. I guess I was ignorant because I had no idea of the havoc he wreaked on gun owners rights. I'm only just now finding out in 2005 and 2006.

What a anti-gun bastard he was. Now I know he pissed all over gun owners. I think as many gun owners are Democrats as republicans. He pissed on both equally. I'm an independent. I'm not really to fond of Bush Jr, though I liked Bush Sr and Reagon. I used to like Clinton too, so what do I know? I didn't know !@#$%%^&*()*.

Anyway, I've recently heard that Billy Clinton ban on assault weapons has expired. I've heard that the 10 round magazine limit has expired too. I only learned about these limits a few weeks ago and then a couple weeks after that heard they were expired.

What about the import of Makarovs? I heard Bill pissed on the Makarovs. Is that true? Is that expired too? Are they importing them again?

My hand, wrist, and neck were broken in a car accident. I was a semi-invalid for a decade. Now I'm back in action, to a point, but I'm really outdated.

It's like I've been in a time warp, out of society and shooting, for almost 12 years. I'm really out of date and confused.

What is legal and what's not? What's imported and what's not. What the hell happened to the world while I was out of it? Why do I see punk kids intentionally step in front of moving cars all the time these days? I'd like to run their asses over, but my insurance would go up.

If the assault weapons ban really expired, then why not the ban on importing Makarov pistols? Why was there a ban on Makarov pistols in the first place?

It sounds like Bill Clinton was an idiot who discriminated against the Ruskies and Bulgys who were just trying to make an honest living. Other countries export arms to the USA. Why not the Ruskies, Bulgies, etc?

The new world has me really confused, frustrated, and pissed off with the Democrats, but the new Republicans aren't any picnic either. Damn I miss the old Presidents Reagan and Bush Sr. when the USA and world made some sense. I almost miss Jimmy Carter too. Almost.

It seems like the USA went to hell and a lot of the world went with it. I thought the end of the cold war was supposed to be a good thing.

Would you guys please re-educate and update me about how things are now in the gun world?

Wbond: sorry to hear about your accident, and I don't mean to be flippant, but where have you been the last 10 years? No TV, no radio, no telephone, no books, no newspapers, no friends or relatives visiting? Were you locked up somewhere?

The 1994 "assault weapon" bait-and-switch included a clause that automatically repealed the law after ten years, in order to sway a few gullible fence-sitters into voting for it. The prohibitionists hoped inertia would allow them to pass an even more draconian version in ten years. Of course, they failed to realize just how bad the backlash at the polls would be, and dozens of prohibitionists got booted from public office over it, so that in 2004 they didn't have the votes to pass a new one.

AFAIK the cessation of Makarov importation was executive-branch fiat (part of a "trade deal" or somesuch, the same way Clinton halted importation of Chinese SKS's), and as such wouldn't automatically expire.

Let's see. On the whole, gun owners are in a lot stronger position now than we were 15 years ago.

Thirty-some states now have "shall-issue" laws in place for carry permits, and there are only two states left that have no provision for civilian CCW.

The "Million Mom March" mustered about 2000-3000 people the last time they tried it. Some of its leaders got busted for gun crimes, the organization got into trouble for some financial stuff, and they folded (Handgun Control Inc., now called the Brady Campaign, absorbed what little was left).

The Violence Policy Center (the bunch who dreamed up the "assault weapon" bait-and-switch) is becoming less and less relevant, and more and more shrill.

Violent crime is actually at a 40-year low, though there are some signs that criminals are getting a little bolder of late, and crime may start creeping up again if the economy stumbles.

If the ban on Makarov's was by executive order, then why are you mad at Clinton and not Bush also?

George W Bush could rescind any Clinton executive order with the stroke of the pen. He could do it today, if he wanted to. No discussion, consultation, or Congressional hearings necessary.

Apparently Bush doesnt want you to have a Makarov either.

And, BTW, if you're recoil sensitive you probably won't like the Makarov, at least in 9x18.

If you like 9x18, AND the CZ83, go get a CZ-82 from SOG - they have them right now, (flyer in my hand), $249.00 each. Best of both worlds for ya!

Well...maybe he's gonna wait until the end of his term and pull off his version of the Clinton Pardon Frenzy.:D

Hey! We can always hope!

To Uflyer:

Not to sound flippant, but if your neck ever gets broken, you won't be caring about guns or shooting. You'll have bigger problems on your mind.

I was a semi-invalid. Sure I had TV, but I never watched the news because it was depressing and I was (at that time) already depressed. I certainly never paid any attention to gun laws or gun issues because I was in no shape to shoot a gun anyway. So I didn't care about guns laws during that time. I had bigger problems, like learning to walk again, etc.

My family do not own any guns. They are simpathetic to the anti-gun establishment, though they are not active participants in that. Obviously I couldn't get any info from them, and I didn't care anyway at that time.

Seriously, we should all write and email the White House requesting the rescinding of the ban on Makarov imports.

Bakail makes some really interesting Maks we've never seen in this country, including a host of rubber bullet shooters.

Apparently Bush doesnt want you to have a Makarov either.

I am mad at Bush Jr also. I stated I don't like him either. It was Bush Sr I used like (as I also stated).

However, you raised a good point that Bush Jr could rescind the Makarov import ban.

Maybe if we all sent emails and letters to the White House, they'd listen if they got enough of them. I think Bush Jr would like to improve relations with the Ruskys. What better way than to help the Rusky economy by importing their guns? He could also gain some gun owner support too. This would infuriate the far left, but they hate him anyway. So honestly, I think it would be good for Bush Jr, could for gun owners, and good for the Ruskys. Who's it bad for? Nobody.

A Makarov is not good for the recoil sensitive, try something like a G34 in 9mm, that shoots alot softer with WWB.

Thanks much for advice

I'll try to get a Bakail IZH-71 Makarov in .380 ACP. Anyone know of one NIB?

Say what you will about Snopes Clinton, you have to concede he's a truly accomplished public speaker.

I am laughing so hard right now. You are so right about that. Clinton was and is a fantastic public speaker. So was Reagan. They were both incredible speakers. I'm a bit synical, yet those guys could just about make me cry and salute when they spoke. What salesmen they were. It takes some time after the charm to see what's really been done.

Unfortunately, actions speak louder than words. I'm not directing that at any president specifically, but at all of them.

Good Point

What about the senior Bush's ban? You remember; the ban that doesn't expire? The one that banned the further importation of the Galil, Norincos, H&K 90's series, etc?

Good Point. Didn't know about that Bush Sr ban.

Makes it pretty hard to choose a party to vote for doesn't it? I'm an irritated independent. Every 4 years I try to decide which party I'm least annoyed with. It's getting harder to choose.

In Reagon's defense...

Reagan, and both Bush's were and are just as hard on gun rights than Clinton was.

I can't defend either Bush Sr or Jr, nor Clinton either, but in Reagon's case he did get shot and his close friend brain damaged. That can change a man's viewpoint, even when he is an NRA life member.

That Reagon-Brady shooting was very unfortunate for everyone.

A mentally ill man, deemed not to be responsible for his actions, should not affect the gun rights of the mentally sane law abiding people. That incident should only prohibit the mentally ill (and criminals) from gun ownership, not the rest of us.

I really object to banning types or brands of guns because that affects law abiding, sane people. I'm all in favor of preventing criminals and the mentally ill from gun ownership, but not law abiding sane people. Banning weapons takes rights from everyone.

I'm not quite sure what the Brady Bill did to gun rights. What did it do?
