I've slowed way down on my C&R buying lately, but will still grab a nice one if it is a good deal.
Recently won this Gustafs M38 Mauser at an on-line auction. Auction pics were crap, as was the description ("all original, beautiful condition"), but the price was right.
It arrived at my FFL today and it is beautiful...all matching, except the cleaning rod, excellent wood and bluing, outstanding bore.
The all matching thing got me thinking. I've got several other Gustaf M38's that are mostly matching...the bayo lug does not match on my other M38's. How common is it to find the Gustaf M38's all matching?
Also, anyone know what procedure the Swedes used when they "cut down" these M38's? Did they cut down the original M96 stocks? New barrel or cut down the original M96 barrel?
