Just wanted to say hi to all, just got my permit and never fired a real gun befor,I'm going to be plinking and of course protecting my house if needed;) ,so what do you guys recommend for a pistol,I'm thinking 45cal should I get a revolver or semi auto and what brand:confused: I like how the xd45 looks. thanks for the help Bob

welcome!

best to start with a 22 caliber like a ruger model 2. then work up to bigger calibers. get some instruction on safety and technique, then practice- alot!

try renting various guns at local range to get the feel before you buy something big & expensive

Well, first off, I noticed you wrote an entire paragraph without using any periods. I suggest you slow down on the caffeine. :D

Seriously, start with a revolver. It's easier to learn. Less to forget.

Also, I'd buy a .22. Ammo is cheap. Centerfire is expensive enough that it could discourage you from shooting as much as you need.

Finally, stay safe.

Oh, welcome to THR.

welcome...start with a smaller caliber and work your way up..you will learn proper shooting practices...and if you make mistakes(like flinching) it will probably be easier to fix..
