I have decided to start reloading. I will be doing .38/.357 mostly. Tying to decide betweena Lee Pro 1000 or Lee Loadmaster. I can't afford a Dillon. I am leaning toward the Loadmaster for the seperate crimp station. What do you think?
Thanks
G

The loadmaster is good but the primer feed is questionable. Always had issues with mine feeding correctly. Lee is a good company with excellent cs.

Would you consider starting out on Lee Classic Turret?

Although I have used Pro 1000s extensively for pistol cartridges, recently got a LCT to load rifle cartridges (Pro 1000 is limited to .223/7.62x39). LCT is really a great press for both pistol and rifle cartridges, in case you want to load longer cartridges than .223 later.

I don't have experience with either press, I own the classic turret. One of my shooting buddies has a P1K and Loadmaster. He has owned the P1K for years and loves it. He bought a Loadmaster and said he doesn't like it as much. He only load pistol calibers on them.

Welcome to THR.

Look around a bit before ruling out anything.

Since you are posting here first, you may want to dig around in the facts and preferences reloaders have presented in previous posts. Some useful info may also be as close as your local gun club (That's a hint to join the local shooting club AND the NRA!) or library. Most shooters and reloaders are willing to help get you started, and some will show you how, loan you their equipment for a trial run, or generally keep you encouraged as you learn. We all started crawling, then walking.

Dillons are expensive, but they have a high rate of production and an excellent reputation. Do you need to load 500 rounds per hour?

Economical loading equipment can serve as a stepping-stone to bigger machines and more cash outlay later. Evaluate your needs (how much shooting you actually do) and the MANY options. Automatic/progressive loaders are appropriate for lots of ammo, and most reloaders start with single-stage or turret presses.

Later on, the $ky is the limit.
