Okay I have bit the worm and am now on the hook. I am ready to compete in NRA HIGH POWER rifle competion almost. Here is what I have so far 1. Lee Enfield 303 BRITISH 2. MATCH GRADE HANDLOADS 3. 45 POWER SPOTTING SCOPE 4. CLEANING KIT 5. SLING. What I do not have is a shooting glove, coat or stripper clips for the rifle. I am also interested in the positions of this great sport. I know standing and prone but dose the game have kneeling or sitting or do you have a choice. Also where can I buy a used shooting coat and glove at a fair price. Thanks

Gunparts has the chargers/stripper clips at $1.30 each or 90 cents each for 10 or more.
Most NRA HIGH POWER shooters are using much modified AR-15's. You won't be competitive with a Lee-Enfield(what model? Just curious.). You will have a great deal of fun though.
Go here for the rules, etc. http://www.nrahq.org/compete/highpower.asp
You'll want to do a lot of practice loading to shoot the Rapid(10 rounds at 200 yards, sitting or kneeling from standing, in 60 seconds and 10 at 300 in 70 seconds).
Make up some DP rounds(no powder or primer. It's best to drill a wee hole in the case too) to practice loading fast. There is a technique(you don't carefully remove the charger. You push the 5 rounds in and let gravity and the bolt closing remove the charger), but it takes practice.
Look into Milsurp Rifle competitions too. Usually at local clubs.

The NRA has removed the "from standing" for rapid fire strings. We start from position now. Rifle out of the shoulder and ammo on ground or stool. Load when the targets come up.

Handloader - welcome to Highpower. It's alot of fun, and very addicting. I started just last summer, and can't believe I went for so long without even knowing about it.
There's a couple of coats for sale right now on National Match (nationalmatch.us), and a lot of knowledgeable shooters who can help answer your questions, as well as a wealth of information there already. Also, I'd suggest going to Konrad Powers website (illinoishighpower.org), and review the information there as well.
I don't know if you've been to some matches yet or not, but I attended my first two as a spectator only. I did get to work in the pits, and all in all, I think I learned more about how a match is ran, and everything that goes on, by not having to worry about shooting as well. I think it would have been real tough to try to shoot without really understanding the course of fire. Also, got to meet several good shooters, ask questions, look over equipment, etc. I think I've met some of the best people I know at these matches. Most anyone will bend over backwards to help someone else out. Have fun!
