I have a Marlin 336 R C. What does the R C stand for? And is there a place to go to date this rifle by serial number? Thanks in advance.

30/30, It's a hand me down from DAD, groups realy tight with 170s, have you ever used leverlution bullets?

They are great rifles and all the better it came from your dad!
I have a few RC's in 30/30 & 35rem and love'um, they are straight shooters.......

I always use 170gr Rem Cor-Lokt's in my 336's. I have used the 308ME 160gr Leverevolution in my Marlin 308MX levergun and it works well but I like the Rem ammo better.

Thank you for the info. Been looking through thr as we speek, the sight is great and everyone on here seems to be graced with respect for others and knowledge of firearms that I have not seen other sights .

rif and North GA ;

I'm also fairly new here (posting wise been lurking a long time ) Welcome to the THR :)

These guys are very knowledgable and helpful in most any way they can be.

Congrats on the 336. It is no secret around here how much I like the 336 in a 30-30 ;)

N GA Hunter what part of GA are you from ? I grew up in west North Georgia (Walker County ) , but spent a lot of time trout fishing from Blue ridge all the way over to Chattooga.

My neighbor bought some of that hornady leverevolution for his 30-30 leveraction...said they grouped really good..in fact i loaded him some 30-30 rounds to try out in the gun ..ones that i have used for a couple years with great sucess....
mine are 36.4gr of blc2 with 150 gr bullet...mine were hitting lower than the hornady rounds but groups were about the same...I want to say 2 or 2.5" low at 100 yards.....
He gave me the used hornady brass...but i could not use it as the necks were split....Either the brass was not soft enough or they are really pushing the limit with those leverevolution rounds ..any way i contacted hornady and they wanted the brass back for testing....Do not know if he sent it off yet

N GA Hunter;

Your in my ole stomping grouds;) I grew up on the other side of Taylor's Ridge from ya. I grew up in Highpoint ( had a Chickamauga mailing address ) I make it down there about twice a month to see family.

I used to trout fish some in Subligna,Spelunking in Pettyjohn's, hunt Piegion Mountain. (Man I miss North Georgia :) ) I worked in Lafayette for years until I graduated from Dalton State.

Now I'm up here on the Cumberland Plateau Just a Georgia DAWG being held captive by the Tennessee Volunteers:D...... Oh well its all SEC I guess:rolleyes:.........Ha ha

Yep Highpoint ant to far at all from me, I live at the foot of John's Mtn. I guess you fished Dry Creek down at Manning Mill? I hunt Pigeon Mtn but didnt have no luck over there this year but there wus some nice bucks killed over there this year.

Maybe you'll get back down this way to stay one of these days. Ant no better place IMO!

What does a G mean for the year?

I looked up in Wiki but I'm confused.... it has a G 25***, I doubt it was 1950, it is really good shape, 1975 seems more like it..
