well, i have not had the same experience as you guys have had. in fact, just the opposite.

I too, have only had excellent service (without attitude) from Hornady. They actually gave me permission to grind on a die to experiment with before they would fix it for free. How can anyone complain about that kind of CS?

But then I'm not asking for their "secret formula" and being upset when they don't give it.

I see the data for 30-30 on the Hodgdon website.
It lists the 160gr FTX with 35.5c for 2389 fps which nearly duplicates Hornady's factory load of 2400 fps. It doesn't say the barrel length, so I am guessing 24" instead of 20". Figure 20" would hit around 2280 fps.
Sweet!

Pardon my ignorance here, but a quick google search left me unclear. Is a stratified load essentially a duplex load that hasn't had the powders mixed? Are the powders packed to capacity but layered?

Yeah, that caught my eye too. From a little research I learned that it is indeed "layered".

Even if I could duplicate it, layering powder is more than I am willing to do for small improvements.

bdubz0r: A stratified load is indeed a load that has layers. It has to be compressed to hold the layers in place. It does not have to be a duplex load, it could be a triplex or a quadruplex load.

Yeah that sounds like something I'll leave to people who are smarter than me.

I first purchased Hornady bullets back in 1952 or 3. I have written them a few letters and have called them a number of times. I have always found them to be helpfull with what ever I needed. I have a 94 saddle ring, ladder site 30-30 Win made in 1932 and a newer 336 Marlin 30-30 with a 3-9 X scope. Maybe I can find an accurate load with the new powder with Hornadys pointed bullet for my 336 rifle.

I find it hard to believe Hornady is not happy with Hodgdon about the powders because they are using the Hornady name and other trademarks on the powder bottles. Hodgdon can't do that without Hornady's permission.
