Hello Everyone,

My name is Michael Miller and my partner and I are developing a new product for the FAL rifle enthusiast. Originally, I looked for something that was close to the look of a "Para"-folder, but without the extra expense. A real "Para" kit can cost between $375 to 450.00 and I thought that a fixed buttstock that looked like a "Para", fit over the fixed recoil spring tube and was priced at around 200 bucks would be attractive to some folks. We have made numerous prototypes and the pics below are of the latest. We are close to starting production on this and I value the opinions and experience of the members here and on other Gun Boards. The actual retail ParaMax stock will be much better than the welded prototype because it will be milled on a CNC machine out of 6061 billet Aluminum and deep anodized a very nice matte black color. If you want to apply your own finish, we will offer these stocks "in the white", as well. The retail version will feature a permanently mounted rubber recoil pad, but we plan to offer a ParaMax later that will allow the shooter to swap recoil pads to lengthen or shorten length of pull. Once you buy one of our stocks, you are protected by a lifetime warranty. If you break it, you send it back to us on your dime, and we will send you another on ours. The ParaMax has a comfortable contour and folks who have shouldered my test rifle with the stock on it have said that the cheek weld is good and tight. I hope you enjoy the pics and I welcome your feedback. Thank you very much for your time.

PS - Moderators, I wasn't sure where to put this post, so punt it to whatever forum you chose and I won't mind at all.

Looks promising. Excellent materials!

Question: Have you found that extended lower portion of the butt to be catching on everything?

I had a Ruger Mini-14 folder with a similar but even more pronounced extension. At times it was a pain in the posterior.

Looks like Rifle stuff to me too, but...

don't abuse it.

A grey line, I know. I think putting something like this on the Rifle forum once is good, and better when a non-affiliated member does it. Ads, of course, belong in the For Sale forums.

Good looking stocks. Too bad the dadgum "real" para unit is so expensive. At first I didn't even realize yours weren't anther style or "real" ones!

I like it! It looks like that flat buttplate would lend itself nicely to adjustment spacers to allow the individual shooter to make length adjustments.

How much does it weigh?

Thank you all for the nice words, and to the mods, I won't abuse anything here and will follow your lead on this.

DMK: A future version will allow for the addition or removal of spacers according to your need. Our first retail version of the ParaMax will have a permanently mounted recoil pad and is actually quite comfortable. As for the weight, I made an change to my current prototype and need to re-weigh to be correct. When I find out I will post it. Thanks again...

Very nice indeed! I like it. If it didn't weigh too aweful much, I could certainly see one of those on my FAL.

I have to apologize for the unrelated question I'm about to ask...

What type of scope mount is that? It looks like an ARMS #3, but with lightening slots cut in it!

Hello Onslaught,

The scope mount in question is called a QD-PRO and I don't think it is made anymore. The guy who made them left a really sour taste in people's mouth because he was a crook and a really bad person to do business with. I have had a couple offers for the mount, but it works for me, so it is staying on my rifle. As to the weight, I'm gonna guess that the current welded prototype comes in at 18 or 19 ounces. I will have to weigh it to be accurate. The weight is pretty much unavoidable because of being constructed entirely of Aluminum, but I find that it balances out the heavy front end of my FAL quite nicely. This is a stout rifle already and a little extra weight is acceptable, at least to me. I wish that I could reduce the weight more, but that would drive the machining cost way over our budget. I have been asked to consider making a single tube Romanian-style buttstock, and that design would reduce the overall weight quite abit. The drawback to this style is the complete lack of a cheek weld. I will probably start working on this style of ParaMax soon, if there is enough interest. Thanks again Onslaught...
