Has anyone heard that new Chris Cornell song for Casino Royal? I know he is in AudioSlave and the other members have some extreme political ideas on revolution (unkown on guns though), but I don't know Cornell's stance on guns really. I think the director of the movie is an anti.

Here is a line from the new song:
Arm yourself because no-one else here will save you

Granted though if you read the rest of the lyrics, it kind of makes you wonder what happend to James Bond. :scrutiny:

If you take a life do you know what you'll give?
Odds are, you won't like what it is
When the storm arrives, would you be seen with me?
By the merciless eyes of deceit?

I've seen angels fall from blinding heights
But you yourself are nothing so divine
Just next in line

Arm yourself because no-one else here will save you
The odds will betray you
And I will replace you
You can't deny the prize it may never fulfill you
It longs to kill you
Are you willing to die?

The coldest blood runs through my veins
You know my name

If you come inside things will not be the same
When you return to the night
And if you think you've won
You never saw me change
The game that we all been playing

I've seen diamonds cut through harder men
Than you yourself
But if you must pretend
You may meet your end

Arm yourself because no-one else here will save you
The odds will betray you
And I will replace you
You can't deny the prize it may never fulfill you
It longs to kill you
Are you willing to die?

The coldest blood runs through my veins

Try to hide your hand
Forget how to feel
Forget how to feel

Life is gone with just a spin of the wheel
Spin of the wheel

Arm yourself because no-one else here will save you
The odds will betray you
And I will replace you
You can't deny the prize it may never fulfill you
It longs to kill you
Are you willing to die?

The coldest blood runs through my veins
You know my name
You know my name
You know my name
You know my name
You know my name
You know my name
You know my name

Sounds to me they're just trying to go "dark" rather than "soft". The weight of all the killing on Bond's soul or whatever. Trying to indicate that it's just not video game killing, but "real people", even if they are your enemies.

The James Bond of the novels is much darker and edgier than the Bond of the movies. The angry vengeful Bond that Timothy Dalton played in "License to Kill" (Despite it being probably one of the worst Bond movies ever) is a lot closer to the Bond of the books in some ways, than Connery or Moore ever played it.

Pierce Bronson comes in second, but even with Dalton and Bronson doing slightly "darker" Bonds, they still don't approach Bond's character in the books. There's still that Hollywood undercurrent of "real romance" with the leading lady, but in the books it's often just straight womanizing…

I wouldn't read anything too "namby-pamby" or anti-gun into it.

(Although the current Bond guy whatshisface has been vocally anti-gun in the past. Roger Moore wasn't necessarily an anti, but hated/feared guns personally due to a close call/accident when he was younger.)

It's Chris Cornell. What do you want?

BTW remember when Bond movies used current pop stars to do their theme songs?:p

I know the director is an anti from what I have read, but I heard the song and that one line sticks out a lot more than any other part of the song...and not just because its about weapons lol...but musically it does. Just wondering if Cornell is a pro RKBA guy since his other current band (even if they are against Bush and the war) is heavily into revolution, and we all know that you can't have one without the other.

But ya, the whole song seems too dark for James Bond, but I admit I have never read the books so it maybe be dead on to the real James Bond.

Remember, they're doing a "reset" on the series with this movie. Casino Royale was the first bond book, and this represents a "restart" for the franchise. AFAIK, this is not a sequel. This is the "new, first" James Bond movie.

If they do it right, it will be a good thing. The series was always too cheesy and unrealistic for my tastes, no matter how much I enjoyed the movies. Despite the anti-gun tendencies of the actor and/or director and/or producer (read: who cares?), this might turn out to be a pretty good flick. Or, it might suck.

I am excited to see it. IF we refuse to see any movie with an anti then you wont see much.

I really like the new Batman since he is a lot darker. I hope I will enjoy the new Bond as well.

From the previews, they appear to be portraying that this is the period of time that Bond decides to become a 00 agent, and as such, he is confronted with the fact that part of that job is being an assassin/killer. After all, he does have a license to kill, right? I think thats what the song is addressing is the moral and ethical reactions to that. I mean, part of being a 00 agent is methodically killing in cold blood, right? I think this new Bond movie is either going to be one of the best, or it's gonna be the second to worst. It appears that they are trying to give Bond some emotional depth, and I think that experiement takes away any grey areas. Personally, I can't wait to see it!

Chris Cornell is one of my favorite singers, but his guitarist is a socialist i think. Remember a quote where he said that we would get rid of all the corruption if we get rid of capitalism...funny thing is he praises Cuba.
