Well I finally got around to finding a card reader to get my pics onto my computer. Yes, my camera is craptacular, so the pics aren't that spiffy, but hey- what can I do? I can't afford a new camera, I just bought a friggin' M1A!
Though I have lusted for years, this is my first M1A. It's a Loaded. It was ordered with the NM style flash hider, but shipped with the CA brake. No biggie as I was thinking of getting a FH with a bayo lug anyway.
Here she is:
I also sighted it in today for the first time. It was sort of impromptu, my dad was headed out to our deer lease so I went with him to sight it in. I didn't have any targets, and the only rounds I had were some silver box Winchester 150 gr soft points, but I figured I'd at least get the thing on paper.
Here's my make-shift target. Paper plate. In LA, the woods are pretty thick, and I intend to hunt with this rifle this year, so I only sighted it in at 50 yds.
Most of the scattered rounds you see are me and my dad taking turns shooting, just getting a feel for the trigger and playing with the sights. Once I was satisfied that the rounds were all landing on the plate, I settled down and really tried to see what the rifle would do. I figured I needed something smaller to aim at, so I dabbed some mud on the center of the plate. The 5 round group to the right of the mud was my first "serious" group. After that I adjusted the windage 3 clicks left and one full click up, and shot the two shot group to the left of the mud. I was going to adjust it a click back to the right and see what it would do, but I was out of ammo.
Here's a pic of the target: (yes I have the ugliest counter tops known to man)
Recoil was impressively mild. This is my first .308/7.62, and I wasn't sure what to expect. Very tame recoil.
Overall, I am highly impressed with my new rifle. Shot like a dream and was every bit as accurate as I had hoped. Those two groups showed me what the rifle is capable of. I can only imagine that it will shoot even better with better quality ammo and more familiarization with the rifle. It's yet to be seen how it will perform as far as durability, but performance-wise I am very happy with it so far.
