so I got my Ruger M77/44 a few days ago, loaded with Winchester 240 grain flat nosed...pretty good kick, got a Leupold 2x7x33 mounted cause my 61 year old eyes wont work..I wanted it open sights...not gonna happen, I am overrun with hogs and bought the carbine for hogs in close quarters, I still got couple .44 mag Blackhawks I carry, 7.5 and 5.5" barrels. still looking for ammo that will work the best, also was surprised at the recoil, a whole lot more compared to a .357 mag carbine. I love this lil carbine....cant wait to get after some hogs in the creek bottoms. looking for input on good ammo for this bad boy.

First thought: Hornady LeverRevolution

Second thought: Buffalo Bore +P Deer Grenades. My Blackhawk loves them, I'm sure both your revolvers and carbine will as well.

I shot some Buffalo Bore 300 grain through it today...should be a sledge hammer on the hogs and my shoulder too...well, that's why I bought this little beast for anyway...gonna do some serious hog elimination in the creek bottom next few days. My .44 mag carbine in my hand, .44 mag Blackhawk on my hip.

I have one also, and I have it sighted in at 50 yards for a zero using Win. 240 FN semi-jacket like you started with.
I can hit all five diamond bulls on a shoot-n-see. I bought it used, and your right it does pack a punch.

I am going to attempt to work up some loads with a 200 grain XTP for my daughter's deer hunting next year, but I think the 240 grain Winchester is good for now.
All I had loaded for my Blackhawk were some lead sledge-hammers, and the carbine did not like them even though the Blackhawk does.
I am thinking that the 240 grain XTP might be a good compromise for having the same load for both guns. I know the Blackhawk likes 240 grain XTPs over 20.5 grains 2400. Use at your on risk as I do not think this load is listed anywhere.

I have one. You're right about the recoil. I actually super-glued a Pachmayr slip-on recoil pad to the (plastic) stock- solved the recoil issue as well as the short LOP issue I had.

Best thing I did to it was a ~0.005" stainless shim between the two halves of the bolt, really tightened it up. Google it.

240gr XTPs shot into dirt peel almost all the way back. They are accurate, but I'd like to try heavier so they don't flatten quite so badly.

I got 14 days in the next few days and got 3 pastures full of hogs in creek bottoms and I am gonna go in and give em hell. I am gonna take the little carbine but have two good revolvers on my gun belt. I have killed boars in these bottoms in excess of 300 pounds....I cant wait, just got permission from another land owner to hunt in her 600 acre pasture and I have seen some big old pigs on her place....gonna find out what that little carbine will do....got cold wet weather moving in....cant wait till my days off...life is good. so many hogs...so little time.
