Has anyone bought a new 39A. I'm really wondering how they worked out, as good as the old ones. Cerebus usually just buys companys tags them together and sells them off. so i m wondering about the quality of the new rifles. Thinking of getting a new one this week. Tx.

I have bought 2 new marlins this year 1895GS and 336 SS The 336 Is perfect as far as I can tell. Slick action very good fit and finnish. The only problem with the 1895 Is 2 Buggered screws that should not have left the factory IMO. Love both guns. A 39 is on my list of must haves.

The newest one I've seen is a 2008 which looked to have the the same quality as my 2007 model. Check to see if you like the way the two halves join together, the flatness of the scope mounting area on top of the receiver, the fit of the walnut stock and forearm, and if the takedown screw has been buggered. Also look at the muzzle end to see if it has any nicks. Good luck.

I've got a 39A so I haven't bought a new one, but I have looked at a couple recently. The ones I've looked at seem to be just as well made as mine, made in 1982. The wood actually looks nicer, and I like the checkering that's on the newer ones, but mine doesn't have. I don't mind the crossbolt safety. I don't think it was "necessary" but I don't see where it hurts anything.

Wood on mine is a little buggered where they did the checkering..and it fails to extract about every 10th round. I look forward to adjusting the extractor when I get back..and probably trading it.

I bought a new 39A in June. I always wanted one, But I have to admit to being a bit disappointed at first. I picked it up at the store (Wally's) and took it home, cleaned it, oiled it, just because it was new. Took it to the range the next day and found it would not fire! :fire::cuss:
called Marlin, they had me ship it back, but they had it for 5 weeks :cuss::cuss:. Finally got it back after they replaced the firing pin and "rebreeched the stock" (not really sure what that meant).
Kinda left a bad taste in my mouth.
If I had it to do over again, I would have bought a nice used one that had already passed the test of time.
I'm also not wild about the cross bolt safety. But I do enjoy the lever action .22

Think mine is an '06. Runs like a top. Finished very well.

Flutes on the stock are just a tad uneven, and there was a tiny nick on the checkering in the forearm out of the box. Otherwise perfect.
