New member to my growing family!

Well my family (the one that lives in the safe) got a new member today... S&W 22A. It's the base model with 5.5" barrel, no special features on this one. I wasn't able to shoot it today, just brought it home and went over operation as well as did a field strip on it to familiarize myself with the gun.

Plan on taking it out and putting some rounds through it this weekend.

First pistol and now the family numbers three... shotgun, rifle, and pistol.

Oh and I got questions!!!
2.) Should I bother saving the spent casing I got from the test-fire after I shoot the gun the first time?

Congratulations on your new addition. A .22LR is a great choice for a first handgun.

Personally, I would try to marshal my brass even if I can't reload it (such as .22LR) just to prevent myself from contributing to any mess that somebody someday might have to clean up. However, I just dump them in a brass bucket found at most ranges.

Nice addition. Truly is a great choice for a .22 as first handgun. I learned the long way that .22s are awesome.

Update... the gun is more accurate than me. I made a new thread over in competition regarding the first outing of the gun at league. The other .22 caliber pistols were (Surprise) a Ruger and (Double Surprise) the guy next to me shooting an identical 22A.

That is an excellent starter pistol and one that you will use through your life to keep your skills up.

about 2 years ago I bought a used 22A that was part of a special run made for AcuSport. It came with a 7" Fluted Bull Barrel that has a Fiber Optic front sight. For an inexpensive pistol it's a great shooter IMO. I recommend one to anyone looking for a nice .22LR semi-auto pistol.
