New Mexico and Louisiana no longer honor each other’s permit/license to carry. Ending years of back and forth with getting answers from either state being almost as hard as finding hens teeth. You can see both states listings below. If you look at New Mexico’s listing you will see that they state a lot of states don’t honor them when they actually do. Leave it to New Mexico to remove in their listing that Alabama, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Minnesota, Montana, South Dakota, Utah and Wisconsin honored the New Mexico Permit. Those states all still honor the NM Permit. New Mexico just won’t list them for their residents to know that.

Ah yes. What the state giveth, the state can take away. And back & forth many times up & down allll around.

POSSIBLY... why they should stay OUT of the rights-oversight role they were never intended to have in the 1st place.

New NM .Gov very D. Anti-gun, that's OK, 4 years goes by quickly. Too many Californians came in the last 12 years.

Thank you NM DPS. I am planning a driving trip from here to Florida later this year, and thought that I was good to go all the way. Sigh.

Basically, you still are.

New Mexico law allows a person who is not otherwise prohibited to have a concealed loaded firearm in his/her vehicle (including motorcycles and bicycles). If you are not licensed to carry concealed in this State or in a state that NM recognizes, you may not have the weapon concealed on your person when you exit your vehicle or motorcycle.

New Mexico is an Open Carry State, meaning it is legal to carry a loaded weapon as long as it is not concealed. However, it is not legal to carry any firearm in any federal building or school. It is the responsibility of the person carrying the firearm to be informed as to when/where carrying is prohibited.

Appears to me just keep the weapon on the outside of a shirt in or out of the vehicle and you will be legal. But don't take my word, read the ordinances and if still want verification; write or call the NM state police.

Uh, where to begin?

I am a NM resident, with a NM CCW. Of course I have no problems in NM, and I am well versed on the laws of my state, to include our open carry provisions.. However, neither LA nor GA honor my NM CCW anymore. I do, however, have my application in for an AZ non-resident permit which will work for both of those states.

And I will apologize since I mistakenly thought you were talking about NM since you stated "Thank you NM DPS. I am planning a driving trip from here to Florida later this year, and thought that I was good to go all the way. Sigh."
Never noting where "here" made it sound like you were upset with the fact your permit was not accepted in NM.
Saying you are from the state of (dis) enchantment meant nothing to; however, now that I know you are from NM, I understand. I guess if you had said NM vs. how you feel about a state might have helped me to understand you were from NM.

So that is where you should begin in the future and this is my apology for trying to help someone. Normally, I don't since normally I don't care.

I should have known better. Accept the apology or not.
