NM did not add SC and KY back on the list. Also OH, WV and LA have removed NM from their list. They should add them back but www.handgunlaw.us reports what states are reporting. Will add them back as they are added back. The site has been updated to show NM adding all these states back.

New Mexico DPS is reporting this evening that they will honor the following states.

New Mexico currently recognizes concealed carry permits from or has reciprocal agreements with the following states: Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Kansas, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and West Virginia.

WV, OH and LA have already removed NM from the list of states they will honor. I am hoping they will put them back on their list.

Still won't honor KY, there went my pronghorn plan. EVEN IF I can carry openly in NM.

KY:
No fingerprint-based background check - nope, but we NICS everyone every month, why add our prints to a database when we committed no crime?
Permits issued to persons under 21 years of age - nope, but they can vote and die defending everyone else's freedom... (sadly KY has the same restriction)
Permits issued to resident aliens - yep, why not, what law did they break to disqualify? Discrimination?

I gave New Mexico a lot of money this past fall trying to hunt turkey:(
Open carried just to try it out. But it was nice to just cover up in town.

I can't figure this out, they give out drivers licenses to illegal aliens, but don't want to allow "resident aliens" which have jump though all the hoops:banghead:

I hope all states have the same requirements, with all 50 states honoring each other.

Perhaps the state presented Mr. Hubbard with a bill for estimated lost revenue due to his actions.

Gary, look at the DOA website........if another jurisdiction is NOT listed it isn't recognized.........haven't checked this AM, but at the time of my post it was still reading a mutual cancellation!

Just rechecked and it's still reading in the negative........further, DOA's reciprocity list is prefaced by the statement that the site is ALWAYS current.

Is Kentucky the only state that does monthly NICS on its citizens who have the Conceal Carry License?

(Originally I was under the impression that FFL's can only access the NICS database for purchase of firearms. There were threads on people wanting to do background checks themselves for one reason or another before purchasing a firearm...but legally they could not. )

Yes, New Mexico should reconsider Kentucky.

Give them a day or two, they need a new formal written agreement on file.

Just received my Florida renewal with the following note.

March 26, 2012 - NEW MEXICO removed because New Mexico authorities terminated the agreement.

What the heck is going on in Santa Fe?

I believe NM requires that the other state have similar laws to qualify for an agreement. What has likely happened is an anti-gunner has realized that no two states have the exact same laws, and is using that as a basis on cancelling the agreements right and left. Its probably a reaction to our Gov signing a bill that allows people from other states to buy long guns in NM, and NM citizens to buy long guns in other states.

As for Santa Fe, think of it like a smaller version of San Fransisco, then you will have your answer. :D

Tygarys,

I guess. I really hope we can pony up a Republican legislature this fall.

Florida has not added NM back. This is a first for Florida in all the years I have been doing this. They must have upset them also. www.handgunlaw.us has been updated to show that Florida will not honor NM. Not only that but WV, LA, OH have dropped NM. Plus Wyoming will drop them as soon as they see that WY is not listed as being honored by NM. WY only honors states who honor them. So the NM DPS just screwed their own residents who now can't carry in 4 states with another state to drop them shortly.

i hope pa. drops NM as we seem not to be on their list of carry states. eastbank.

Gary, thank you for the hard work you put into helping us be aware of the hodge-podge of insanity regarding state CCW laws.

I'm driving through NM on my way to Utah on vacation at the end of the month. I'll be sure to cast dirty looks toward Santa Fe while on my trip! :D

Hey, Twmaster, stop by and have a chat with them.
I'm going to be there in a week or so and want to
ask them some question in regard to not recognizing
the Alaska permit. Though we are not required to
have them, the state still offers them, if you do the
proper classes and go through the other procedures.

This is the first I have heard of Ky not being honored by NM. (Thank you Handgunlawus!) Does anyone know if there is likely to be any change? I hunt there in Oct.

I don't think they've got any intent to change. I've sent a message to Gov. Martinez office. She's very pro-gun, but it has to get through her staff.

Here's the link to her:

Maybe if enough of us send the message, they'll get the point.
