Got home tonite, had some free time, so I took out the new, as yet unfired Win/Miroku 1892, that I've had less than 2 weeks and... cycled the lever. Tried to lower the hammer. Nada. Trigger won't release the hammer. Safety is, and has been, OFF

I'm guessing either the "sear" isn't in its proper position due to a spring failure, or... something let loose.

Tried calling Browning/Winchester and even though they said they were supposed to be open, they weren't. Maybe they have a pre Covid-19 message on their phone.

Any thoughts gents? I really don't want to go to an "authorized service center", as there's not a mark on the rifle. It is pristine. Also hoping Browning/Winchester will step up with some prepaid shipping.

And, just picked it up, it worked for three trigger actions and licked up again. Methinks dried up lube or a really nasty burr.

Stand down red alert! Stock off revealed grease resembling dried earwax.... Some brake cleaner and relube. Seems good to go again.

Glad you got it worked out. I would love to get ride of the rebound and have a half-cock option.

I've seen that "ear wax", "toe jam" sorta stuff on many of the long guns shipped over salt water when they arrive on our shores. It's a great method to prevent any rust forming en-route to future owners during its trip over salt water, but it might be a good idea if the folks at the Miroku plant in Japan were to put a note in the firearms box to let a new owner know that these rifles metal will need a "kerosene" bath before serious use.
At least you were savvy enough to seek out the cause and then use a method to rid that fine rifle of the packing grease.
