New model 70's?

Hello everybody,
I have heard only good things about pre-64 winchester model 70's. However, its getting harder and harder to find them as demand goes up. I have seen some good deals on new model 70's on gunbroker.com, etc, and my question is: Are they near as good as the pre-64's or are they a whole new gun? Does anybody have one? Would you buy it again?

The new SC built guns seem to be well made and worth the money. I read some early reports that were mixed but they were apparently pre production prototypes. I have only had a chance to handle one and liked what I saw. I have not shot one, but the posts I have read on the net from others who own them has been positive.

Do the new model 70s even resemble the new haven guns? Controled feed,3 position safety,etc. I have never seen one.

Yeah. The new trigger seems to be the only real difference.

I have several of the "Classic" models produced in the late 90's with a boss.

Thanks lone star. I wonder why they changed the trigger-one of the things that I always liked about M70s was the trigger-my 1936 30-06 and 2007 233 WSSM have the same set up.

My best guess is that the new trigger is easier or cheaper to make. Or, easier to adjust. But it seems a good one, if reviews can be believed.

My "Classic" triggers adjust very well,all my rifles or set @ 2 1/2 lbs,so that all I shoot will be the same feel. I love the triggers on my'70s...I am a "Boss" lover also, I have it on my 257 weatherby and my 300 weatherby Laredo.Barrels or all Hart match grade.

I've not handled a new Model 70. I have a pre-'64 in .30-06, though, and think it would be difficult to improve on that elegantly simple trigger.

Looking at the new trigger, it looks a bit like the Mashburn trigger on Bigfoot Wallace, my custom '03 Springfield in .35 Brown-Whelen. I had that trigger freeze up once in bad weather in the Rockies. Moisture from melting show seeped into the housing and froze.

Since then, I've had more respect for the Winchester trigger and been suspicious of any enclosed trigger system.
