bruther i love the 91/30

im a mosin fanatic have you checked out (rock solid ind.) for some cool stuff thats pretty inexpensive too. :D:D:D

Gonna shoot my 1942 Tula 91/30 tomorrow, my buddy wants to see what all the Mosin's are all about. I'll be nice and give him the 147gr Russian ammo.

Fun guns to shoot and cheap! I like the M44 carbine, but I have to put a rubber recoil pad on it. I'm dying to get my hands on a Finnish M39...

Have fun, recoil pads are a must for poorly trained girly men like me, but then I like to shoot more than 5 rounds....

you never know how the are until you get them to the range.

recoil pad

If you get one of this you will avoid the "morning after pain in the shoulder"

Get a medium size one, your shoulder will thank you.

Welcome to the club :D

How bout a year?
Where was it made?
Hex or round reciever?
Any strange markings?

These guns have very interesing histories and information about them. Head over to http://7.62x54r.net/ and you can look up almost anything about your gun.

Oh, and did I mention they are great shooters? :neener:

A little warning about M-N's: they have a tendancy to invite their relatives over for a long stay. :D

BTW dittos on getting a recoil pad, definately worth the investment. Especially if you have to move anything heavy the next day.

Now quit teasing us and post some pics!

I love my Mosin Nagant 91/30, manufactured in 1941. I don't find the recoil a problem at all but my son who has much less fat on him was black and blue after an afternoon shooting it.

I hope your Tula shoots better than mine (1933 Hex). It's the most inaccurate rifle I own. Talking 6 inches at 50 yards, sitting tight in a heavy sand filled "Bullsbag" rest off a benchrest - 6 to 7 inches! :banghead:

What does the crown look like?

Crown is good. Mistery rifle so far. Bought from Classic arms.us First one shot great but split caes, Returned for hex Tula but dismal accuracy....

It's stamped 1943, round receiver. Not sure where it was made, but it has a triangle with an arrow in it. Cleaned it really good after work las night and shot 20 rounds of Winchester 180 grain through it. To me it didn't seem to kick at all. Seems to be accurate enough at 50 yards or so. I'll read the thread on posting pics and then give it a shot

I know I love my 91-30.
(tula arsenal, 1939 mfg. all matching)
It was the best gun I ever bought for the money.
its been through a counterbore, and a recrown and it still shoots great!

The arrow-in-triangle means it was made in izhevsk arsenal.
Try out shooting with milsurp ammo, Its waaaay cheaper than commercial stuff, although you have to be careful to clean the gun thoroughly after every shooting.
(most surplus ammo for mosins is corrosive)

Wow, I can't believe people are actually complaining about the recoil. It isn't bad at all, for real, im 5'6'' and 200 pounds and it doesn't hurt whatsoever. A recoil pad isn't a must, unless you really decide you need it :)

I was gonna use the milsurp ammo but I reload and all of it that I've seen is steel case, so I'm just gonna build up my supply of brass for now
