any one have any reviews on the new mossberg bolt action riles.
I read on another forum that they had a few problems with them as far as the locking lugs shearing from the bolt face.I think 2 shooters were injured from the bolt blowing back out of the action.
The above model in the 243 cal. for me it is the Bantam model and the L.O.P. is 13 1/4"
I read a few of the older model had problems I see no bad reviews on the newer 2010 models

The ATR is an OK budget rifle, about what you would expect for the money. The problem is that there are two other contenders for about the same price that offer much more than you would expect for the money. The Stevens 200 and the Marlin XS7 are both superior in just about every way. If you take a good look at them before you buy a Mossberg, you won't buy a Mossberg.

I have an ATR-100 in .30-06. It will hold under 2" @100Yds 5 shots in MY hands, with most inexpensive hunting-type soft-point (read as Rem Core-Lokt) ammo

Shooting Budd with MUCH steadier hands than me got a smidge under 0.7" @ 100Yds 5 shots w/Federal gold medal match ammo.

Mine is an early ATR-100; purchased Sept. 2004

I would buy a Marlin, Savage, or T/C Venture in a hearbeat before I'd buy a Mossberg. If you're on a budget, I think the Marlin is the best gun for around $300 right now. If you can afford a little more, the Venture would be a great choice.

I own a number of brands and calibers. My Mossberg 100 ATR 270 will kill deer with the best of them. Of course there are detractors and need I say liars about any gun you want to mention. These rifles are well made and built in God Blessed Texas. I have only been shooting and hunting for 60 years so what would I know, right? You can always listen to the hoard of fresh faced know it alls but, I don't. Most of the people I respect carry a gun that looks like it is a working gun and well used. They all eat well from the game they kill.

kinda funny

I traded over a year ago for a Mossberg ATR in 243, and have been looking for reviews and info on it, and now in less than a week I have seen 3 postings on here for it. Just kinda funny.

Might want to look at two other threads, "Shooting with nephew" and "Mossberg 100 ATR" on this forum. I went to the range with mine this week, and wrote a short note about it.

Hindsight is always better. Had I known then what I know now, I might have held out for a Marlin or Stevens, or heck, just looked harder for a good used, non-synthetic stock, old school bolt action. I used to be so good about finding these deals at pawn shops and garage sales, but have somehow lost my touch....
