Forgive me if this is a dupe...

So...I caught There Will Be Blood last night (which is wonderful film-making BTW) and saw a trailer for the latest movie by Edward Zwick (Glory, Blood Diamond, Last Samurai). I will admit that his movies tend a touch towards the schmaltzy...but I am, by and large, a big fan.

Anyway the movie is called Defiance. You can watch the trailer in quicktime here: Defiance

The film ostensibly covers the true story of the Bielski partisans, and it looks like it will have lots of Mosins (rifle and revolver), PPSHs, and assorted German gear.

All this gear...plus bad Nazis getting shot up...plus a hefty "citizen arms as a means to resist genocidal tyranny" theme. Sounds good to me. :D

Isn't there an original idea in Hollywood anymore? Is everyone coked to the gills out there?

They sat around smoking dope and watching Come and See and thought they could copy it, add sex and better violence and hope that the American audience would watch it.

Disgusting, another rip-off when they could be making original material.:barf:

I hope Tovarish Klimov sues.

*Well, maybe they are hoping that most Americans do not speak Russian and thus will not know that they are ripping off yet another idea.:D

Red Army Chorus, music to love your Nagant by. Turn up the volume and have a little glass of vodka!!

While I am more than happy to purcahse firearms from the defunct Soviet state, and also willing to imbibe alcoholic beverages invented in that same region, such music celebrating a state who attempted to destroy this country and all it stood for is likely to attact incoming gunfire.

Oh, whatever. I'm as anti-communist as they come, but even I realize that even Stalinist dictatorships can produce some good music.

It looks like a mix of "Heavy Sand" and some factual material. It also looks lame, not very authentic...but as a combat fantasy might be fun to watch.

Thanks for the movie trailer link and the Soviet music link. I've always watched Enemy at the Gates when cleaning my 91. Now I have new things. Life is good. :)

Everyone's a critic... :D

Just be glad this kind of movie gets made for large scale movie-going audiences. Not everybody is going to climb around on Netflix to watch a subtitled movie made in the mid 80's detailing the same historical events.

People may get intrigued by the story and want to learn more about the "real" history. When I was a kid, all good "based on true story" movies inspired me to learn more about the real events.

The same principle applies for me today.

Regardless of whether or not the film is derivative, or rife with nitpicky inaccuracies; it will be a mass market, heavily promoted film, that incorporates a theme central to the notion of why private firearms ownership is paramount. ;)
