As a strong Ruger man, I jumped at the chance to buy a 7.5 inch LNIB stainless Old Army with a .45 Colt aftermarket cylinder too at a great price. Ruger Forum members, thanks again for the help and guidance. Not a BP shooter ever before, I'd like to buy appropriate accessories too when I go to pick up my new treasure. A 200 mile round trip drive on $2.69 per gallon gas to this one stop shopping gunshop, I'd like to go with list in hand and get the appropriate powder, balls, wads and accessories in one trip. What I'm hoping someone here can do, even just as an opinion, is to help me with a list of brand specific stuff I need, kind of like as follows:
1) A well made capper
2) Size and brand of percussion caps
3) Size and maybe make of balls
4) Brand and grade of powder. I'd prefer BP alternative.
5) Type and brand of powder measure
6) Extra nipples, size and brand
7) Overpowder wads if advised, kind and size
8) Cleaning solvent, if anything but good hot soapy water in my kitchen sink
is needed
Am I overbuying? I don't want to spend money unnecessarily, but the shop is far away and I hope to make one trip. Incidently, the out-the-door price was $369. Needless to say, I'm pleased. May get to use it in a deer hunt this fall too. Oddly, because it was traded in as a gun with a .45 Colt cylinder, I have to do the paperwork. Oh well.
Thank you in advance for any specific lists you all can offer. I do understand that my results may vary from yours too.
