After a lot of yelling and frustration, I finally got the brace to retract on the Charger. Something was stuck in the assembly preventing it from operating correctly. The pics below show the true difference between the most compact version of the Charger and the Carbine. The first pic shows the two with the actions more or less lined up. The second shows the difference in total length measured from the rear of each weapon.
