Well, I was planning on spending this big check for food while on the road getting my CDL and stuff until I got paid, but I have 2 months of dental work ahead of me. So by that time I'll have another big check, so I decided what the heck, and I bought myself a new pistol tonight. Kimber Pro Carry II. My first 1911. Haven't shot it yet, but it's NICE. Picked up 2 stainless Kimber Mags for it as well. Although if I'd inspected the mags first I woulda spent the extra $$ on better mags. Sure they are nice, but they can't be taken apart for cleaning so I am going to have to treat them extra careful. I can't stop looking at this thing and holding it. The classic lines of a 1911. Sure there are things I plan on changing but can't beat the price of 700 bucks really. Well maybe, but I won't go to that shop anymore because they treat you like garbage unless you have about 10 grand of disposable cash, and can buy anything you want without even asking about price. Anyway I like the gun, I finally got a 1911, and IT'S A KIMBER! So I am assured of the quality.

You can still clean them. You hold the spring down with a small screwdriver and pull out the follower (forward and up). Then remove the spring, clean, reverse the procedure to assemble.

That's my weakness too. The 1911 has been around long enough, I suspect this attraction to those "classic lines" of the 1911 happens to be genetic.

I've greatly enjoyed my Kimber and it's still my pride and joy. I'm sure you'll love yours equally (sound like you already do).

It's just to be able to hold it in my hand anytime I want instead of going to the gun store and convincing them to let me look at one. LOL. Pulling it down right now to look at it since we be mentioning it. I can't say I am without complaint though. The extended safety is nice, but the stock slide stop, could get me killed. It's close enough to be impossible to lever it down with a shooting grip. I need to get an extended one. The only other complain is that while the sites are nice, they are also all black, no dots or nothing. Both of these things are remedied easily. The front strap feels a bit odd without checkering. I would like to remedy that, but I don't want to have to have the parkerizing redone. The rubber grips are interesting, and comfortable, but I can't see them lasting very long. I like the grips, just not putting any faith in longevity but time will tell. I would prefer a flat face trigger, but heck, thats a personal thing, and very few off the shelf pistols have that. Speaking of triggers, it's got a nice one. Appears to be adjustable in some way as well. Just in case it's for overtravel(of which there isn't any at all), I will leave it alone, as the takeup is VERY little, and no discernable creep. Overall I am happy with it. Sure I will slowly work on it and have work done to it, to customize it to make it truly mine, and perfect for me, but isn't that one of the reasons to buy a 1911?

i think houge makes a strap that clips to the grips thats checkerd and you wouldent have to repark anything :) it looks ok too

The crimson trace grips for the 1911 add a very nice purchase and feel to the front strap, along with their more obvious functionality.
