CCW in National Parks...

For the life of me I can't understand why we continue going round & round with concealed carry in national parks. Truth be told if I'm hiking in a national park I like knowing that I have a pistol for self defense. Are there any surveys conducted in national parks that detail people being assualted or robbed while miles out on a trail hiking?
I would be curious to see the results of just such a survey.

CoRoMo,

The sarcasm is kind of my point. It was a great way to get it passed. Who is going to vote down the credit card bill? It was kind of like voting against something called the Patriot Act. If you vote against it, you are not a patriot, but a traitor.

senate has passed bill to reinstate Bush ruling for CCW. amendment is attached to Credit Card reform bill

It passed the vote in the Senate today, but the House will vote on the gun issue apart from the credit card bill, so it's not over yet.....

Was a smart move though, they have been doing that to us for years.

The House could pass the gun bill as early as tomorrow. House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) said today that his chamber could vote separately on the gun legislation, allowing members to vote differently on the gun and credit card bills. The two measures would then be rejoined and sent to the president as a single bill, Hoyer said.

My favorite quote...

There's an article about the new ruling on MSNBC.

My favorite quote:

"Families should not have to stare down loaded AK-47s on nature hikes," said Brady campaign president Paul Helmke.

What a complete idiot. Is there really someone this naive? And they've made him PRESIDENT of something? Wow.

When I first posted this about an hour ago there were about 400 votes and we were losing about 38 to 45%. now there are about 6000 votes and we are winning about 60 to 32%. Don't you just love how politicians always refer to us as a "special interest" and every time this happens it's the NRA's doing? I'm waiting to the media to realize that this is something that PEOPLE are passionate about, and not some vague monolithic special interest group like the NRA. Damn if the NRA could mobilize this many people in an hour they would be the most efficient special interest group in the world.

Better than it appears

Don't forget, this isn't just concealed carry in the national parks. The amendment requires that one have the same rights in the national parks that one has in the rest of the state in which the park is located. In those states where open carry is allowed, open carry will also be authorized in the parks.

This is much broader than the Bush regulation, which only authorized concealed carry.:)

Let's keep our fingers crossed that this passes tomorrow.

:)........they're getting dumber by the day, hopefully with statements like that people will just stop listing to them altogether

Long guns too, which is nice for Texas since we can't open carry handguns.

Call your Congresscritters!

You have got to be kidding me! You can't open carry in Texas???

Nope, afraid not, not handguns anyway. Tried to get it passed this year but the Legislature pooped on it.

Maybe next time.

Just voted

30.5%
No. Allowing firearms will only increase the risk of reckless gun violence.
2,900 votes
62%
Yes. Families should be allowed to protect themselves, especially on public lands.
5,897 votes
7.4%
Maybe. They should allow only some firearms, not loaded assault-style weapons like Uzis, for example.
702 votes
0.2%
I don't know.

the "no" votes are funny to read, apparently they think we concealed carry holders run around killing people and holding people up at gunpoint every day.
Hum, 27 year old middle management concealed carry holder, or 27 year old unemployed crackhead...which one is more likely to rob you in a place that we know you are unable to protect yourself?

If no one is allowed to have guns on public lands...Please tell me what "family's" would be protecting themselves from?
HAHAHAHAHAHA Because, you know, criminals follow the rules.

Columbine goes on vacation. An accident waiting to happen, coming to your TV soon. Why not put gun vending machines on every streetcorner?
I like this idea.

Unfortunately the Nat. Parks are already dealing with people who bring criminal behaviors into the park. Adding guns to the mix is crazy!
Riggghhht...

The National Parks are a place to enjoy and respect the beauty of nature. Families are there to see nature not dodge bullets.
OK, I'll stop now.

It is a little tough to paste a link when it doesn't display completely on the screen. Note that I took off the h2tp and the 3w. All you have to do is add the 3w to get it to be usable as a link.
