I found a NOS 1996 CZ75B Military for $525 OTD and a NIB CZ75B current production for $432 OTD. Cosmetically I like the NOS better, namely the hammer style, unfinished barrel, and stamped proofmarks. The shop owner told me that he recommended current production over the NOS. According to him the newer production CZs are more reliable, have less issues with JHPs and tend to be more accurate. Is he right?

Get the new one simply because they are basically the same pistol.

1996 military model isn't really worth a premium. What is that, a Turkish contract pistol? That is getting close to the transitional years, but I am pretty sure that it is just a regular 75B the same as the new models.

Different hammer? Is it a spur hammer?

The darker finish on the barrels is due to a surface hardening process. If you care about having pretty shiny things, that's not what CZs are about.

"Is he right?" Not really. 1996 model shouldn't be that much different than a new production one. I wouldn't pay a premium for one.

Regarding older/preB Cz75s which a 1996 model probably is not.
-Less reliable...not really, they're both reliable
-Issues with JHPs...not really. That was an issue with the 97B not thte 75B. All older PreBs I've have or have seen eat JHPs fine.
-Less accurate. Nah. The older 75s are generally just as accurate as the newer ones.

The nice thing about the pre-Bs is that they don't have the firing pin block, which on the Bs is connected to the trigger, producing Series 80-like results. Heavier, grittier trigger.

Thanks for the responses. They're both "B" models, so basically I'm looking at cosmetic differences between the NOS and current production. The older "B" models came with a more substantial rowel hammer, but again, this seems to be a cosmetic and not functional issue.

I have a 1996 military model. They just were a contract over run. I changed the extractor in it with a newer factory one because of failure to extract problems. The new extractor I put in has a slightly larger claw than the one I took out. I bought my 1996 cz new in 2000 for $300 when regular 75bs were going for about $350. Buy the new cz for $432 OTD. In the early days at CZF, used to buy Turks for $299 shipped.

The gun have crappy grips but they can be changed.

Hakans, Omega, or the new CZ grips from CZ-USA would be my choice.

Yeah, I remember the days of the $325 CZ75B Militarys. Those were the days.:(

I'm probably going to save the money and go with a NIB CZ75B. As I said it's just a cosmetic thing with me but I don't think that stamped proofmarks are worth the extra money.
