New Python owners

I have a new production 6" barrel Python. It s a nice revolver and it shoots well but I'm not sure it is really better than the pre-lock S&W L frame and N frame 357 magnum revolvers that I have.

I do not have any experience with the early production Pythons although they have a mythical reputation.

Bought mine in the 70's and it has always been my most cherished handgun. It has seen a lot of use, mostly +P handloads, haven't shot a magnum round out of it in over 20 years because of potential timing problems. It has always been my most accurate revolver. For full house loads I use a Dan Wesson 715 as I like the interchangeable barrels. The Dan is very accurate but I still shoot the Python better, probably due to the years of familiarity and the fact that the trigger breaks like glass at about 2lbs. SA. Have nothing against pre-lock Smith's have a 625 and a 629, just never got one in 357.
The reason for my inquiry is because I'd really like to add a 6" to my collection and I'm interested in feedback on the new models durability/

Brutus51,

I may have misread your postings but I get the
impression you've fired your Python SA only
or at least seldom, very seldom in DA. It's the
fast DA that throws the Python's timing off.

Old or new in SA I doubt you'll ever have to
worry about the Python's longevity. I do
remember reading the 2020 Pythons have
around a 4 to 5 pound SA.

That’s good feed back, about what I expected.
