Julia Watson of the Marine Corp shooting team set a new woman's offhand record of 200 8X. Her match total was 790 33X. Julia Fired this score at the Buffalo Creek Gun Club near Bailiey Colorado July 2nd. The old record was 200 4X. Congratulations Julia.

I think it was a rifle match, Krag. They are commonly shot in 10 shot strings, two strings per position (standing, kneeling/sitting, prone rapid, prone slow), for an 80 round CoF.

Offhand = standing erect
Kneeling = one knee on ground, butt on that foot
Sitting = Butt, feet on ground
Prone = belly, hips, knees, feet on ground, face down
Supine = butt, feet, lower back on ground, face up (shoulder blades on ground optional)

Yes her score was 200-8x beating the old record of 200-6x. It is the the womens high power metalic sight 200 yard off hand record.

Wow, that is some extremely fine shooting and you KNOW the wind wasn't laying down in that part of CO.

I'm not personally familiar with formal rifle competition . . . what kind of approximate group size would this score equate to?

All 20 rounds were within the 7" ten-ring, and 8 of those were in the 3" x-ring.

Ok here is what you are looking at.
the target is 200 yards away.
10 ring I forgot what it is but will trust what the other person said.
You get 2 sighters and 20 shots for record in 22 minutes.
Standing unsupported
Sling must be on rifle and can in no way be used for support
open sights
Here is what she did.
she cleaned both sighters and all 20 shots for record.
She used a ar15 20" barrel with the trigger at least 4 1/2 #'s no less (yes we weighed it after) but in the rules you do not need to as the record does not specify you do that but for a service marine record we did it and hope she gets that also.

The conditions that mouring were calm with a very bright sunny target as she started to shoot around 7:10 am mst with the sun low on the target.
We are at 8600 feet.
The only way you get a chance to set a record is in a registered match only. that means it has to be one of three types of matches.
#1 state championship
#2 regional championship
#3 national championship

A few of us were watching when she got to around 12 or 13 shots and made sure everyone flat stayed away from her untill she was done. She did the right thing as she brought the rifle down a few times on the last shot but was very compossed and finished it off with style.

I have been very lucky to have been around to watch two national records set this year and and like 5 last year.

We had a shooter set the national record for score in a reduced 80 shot match back in april in our state reduced course championships.
He shot 198 in off hand,200 in rapid sitting, 199 in rapid prone and 200 in slow prone for a total of 797 out of 800 as the old record was like a 795.

Last year the 200 yard prone record went from like 200-10x to 200 15x plus we set 4 junior national records last year also.

Julia also holds the womens national record for a national match across the course 200,300 and 600 yard match for a 80 shot match with a 797-31x.
That was also done with a ar15 service rifle.

If you look at how many women shoot in this sport and the quality of those shooters it is a great feat to set a record with a ar15 when so many shoot a match rifle. With better light in our 600 yard match opn fridays service rifle stage I was hoping for a record there also as the conditions were pretty good but we only had a 200-17x for the high score at 600 yards.

I had the honor of seeing Herschal Anderson shoot the Bullseye record that still stands today. 2680 159X shot July of 1974 in Nashville,Tn.
This was shot with iron sights. As I recall his last string of Rapid Fire was a bit off his usual pace.
