just bought a new charter arms 38 special undercover for my wife. we shot it for the first time and only put in 50 rounds jacketed american eagle 130 grain . i cleaned the barrel with bore foam cleaner and got a lot of blue. did another application and let it sit for several hours. no more color but after cleaning found fouling still present. i'm assuming lead. did chore boy around my jag and didn't get to remove much. put in butch's bore shine and scrubbed barrel( hard on a 2 inch barrel) but the fouling is still there. it looks like chatter marks but it is in the grooves. i don't think it's tooling.

is this common for only 50 rounds and jacketed at that? it's my/hers first revovler apart from ruger single action rimfires.

Well, if you only shot jacketed bullets, it isn't lead.

The blue stuff was copper jacket fouling the bore cleaner removed.

Whatever else is in there now, I would have to guess Charter left there.

And if it looks like chatter marks, it is chatter marks.

well then. i won't worry about it. but that will catch lead when i try lead later on. the blue was copper from the jacket . the brass jag was used only with the chore boy after the 2nd bore foam cleaning.
