I brought my CX Storm into a local gun shop to go over how it works. The owner is a cop of this "Mom and Pop" type of store....really nice folks. They were kind enough to show me how it comes apart. While I was there I saw a Colt Detective Special .38 snubbie. It looked like a wicked nice gun and it belonged to another dealer who's permit expired and he just decided to leave the business so this guy got that gun. It looked just fine and it's selling for $425. Price doesn't seem bad seeing that it's a Colt and looks to be very well taken care of. I told him I'd like to buy it by the end of the summer. What do you think? Good purchase?

What model? First, second, third? Seems a bit steep pricewise. Get a copy of the Blue Book and try to find it. Love those older Colt Det. Spls.

You know I didn't ask. I just looked at the gun and handled it. It looked very good overall. Again, if I bought this same gun online it'd probably end up costing in total about that considering the shipping fees and transfer costs.

I looked online at another store that was selling this model of gun and it went for $299 -- it was "3rd issue, 2" -- what am I looking for in a good Colt? I don't understand the 2nd issue, 3rd issue description. Can anyone explain?

Basically the first issue will have the long grip frame.
The second issue will have the short grip frame.
The third issue will have the shrouded ejector rod.
Prices can found all over the spectrum and the conditions can vary widely. On an average look to pay over $350 for an excellent Dick Special.

You've got to remember in Massachusetts we can't get new Colts. A month or two back I was told they (another shop) had a Glock 26 for $600. I refuse to pay that for a used Glock when I could get a new Beretta for less. This gun was in excellent condition which is one of the reasons it got my attention -- so I'll check out the other shop tomorrow for the DS they have and revisit this one I saw today to ask more questions. It be a nice snubbie to have in my collection.:)

Give Old Fuff a PM.
If you can , get the serial number and let Old Fuff look it up and advise.
It's not fair where you live you have the restrictions you do, and firearms run more money because of said restrictions.
