Arkansas' private land doe only season opened yesterday. I found a Rem 700 243 demo gun online. It arrived Wednesday and I stuck a 3x9 Monarch UCC on it, grabbed a couple of boxes of federal Fusions and headed for the range. Took 4 shots to get it zeroed. I must be slipping, or getting old. Anyway, opening day in zone 3 brought 20 head of does and bambis by me. One didn't make it. This morning I went to zone 2 and saw only 10 head. 8 does and 2 bucks. A yearling doe, once again, didn't make it.
I am becoming very attached to this little rifle. The trigger pull is about 2 1/2 clean crisp pounds and the Fusions dropped both deer in their tracks. The old Savage 300 WSM may not get a workout this year.
