Last month, Rob Pincus released Defend Yourself: A Comprehensive Security Plan for the Armed Homeowner.

In order to have something to read on the Kindle, I downloaded it from Amazon. The device tells me that I am 38%into the book.

I put it down and came to the computer, because I did not want to be responsible for anyone acquiring it later rather than sooner.

To be frank, I did not think I really needed it. Having watched numerous episodes of The Best Defense, having planned and thought, I thought I knew enough.

When I was about half as far into the book as I am now, I decided I should recommend it to others. I planned to wait until I had read it all.

Nope. Time to recommend it now.

More later.

Strongly Recommended

I just finished the book.

The subject matter is wide ranging, and it covers many of the subjects that have been discussed here in ST&T--hardening, locks, doors; tactics; storing and access to firearms; lights; electronic protection; types of firearms; lights on or off of firearms; 911 and talking to the dispatcher; cover and barricades; backstops; considerations introduced by different floor plans, from big houses to hotel rooms; and even training.

The discussion is not superficial. The author goes into the thoughts behind the recommendations in some depth.

I had personally not expected to reap much benefit from the book, but I was very pleasantly surprised.

It's a must for the bookshelf or the e-reader.
