After much consultation, hemming and hawing and going over the same stuff over and over again with local "experts" it has been confirmed that my new Rock River must undergo surgery to alleviate a stuck recoil spring guide rod. In fact to be done by myself. Have no fear, I am somewhat of a master mechanic in one of my other lives. I'll try not to screw it up. FYI if you hadn't seen it I recently posted another thread telling of the inability to get the two piece rod to come apart, I will have to cut it with a die grinder in a very delicate procedure to get the barrel out of the slide for cleaning. Then it will be replaced with a conventional guide rod and plunger. "Dave" over there at RRA will soon be being asked and I quote, "Exactly WHICH GORILLA around there is putting the two piece rods together?!"

I'm looking for recomendations for anesthesia,,,not for the gun BUT FOR THE SURGEON!!

:D

It doesn't seem like it would necessarily be that delicate a procedure... If you can get the gun put back together, lock the slide back so the guide rod & barrel are exposed. Clamp the pistol in a padded vise upside down, and put a piece of scrap between the guide rod and barrel so as to protect the barrel. Then have at the guide rod with your die grinder. You'll only have to take off about 1/4" off the end in order for the barrel bushing to swing past.

Sorry,

Just trying to point out a RRA problem and have a little fun with it.

Tough to get a laugh around here...

Thanx! I was beginning to worry...

Got a laugh out of RRA too, "Mark" in tech support. I asked him the gorilla question and he busted up. He said, "Well, it was either me or "Chuck" so,,,"

FWIW

He's not too fond of the rod cutting idea. He recommended soaking it with light lube overnight and trying it again tomorrow with a ratchet type allen wrench.

He said, "You didn't bust the wrench off in the rod did you?" I said , "Good Lord NO!!" "Don't even say that!"

He said the last batch of rods that came in has had this problem, the batch before did not. It's his and Chuck's job to make sure they're not too tight before they ship and they'll have to pay more attention to that in the future.

His last words were that Chuck did not like anyone to give out tech support and I should talk to him (Chuck) if I need more help. But Chuck won't be back till Monday.

He asked, "Other than that how do you like the gun?"

Me, "Beautiful gun, I just took 3rd in my first match with it !"

3rd amongst the expert category, 4th overall!

I beat all the Masters, but not the (1) High Master, close though, very close.

:D
