Hi,

I bought a new 10/20 TD today. Haven't shot it yet.

I've been reading everything I can about these and I recall some folks had some pretty serious scorching around the chamber.

And, if I remember correctly, at least one person had what appeared to be scorching AND a bad heat treatment resulting in soft metal around the outside circumfrence of the chamber and Ruger had him send it back,

I bought ithis one at a gunshow from a local dealer and I inspected it there and asked about the scorching. it was the last one he had.

He assured me it's purely cosmetic and wouldn't effect shooting or anything else.

He told me to put a few hundred rounds through it within 30 days and keep inspecting the metal face of the chamber and if there was any damage (softness) he would replace the rifle or refund my money.

I've dealt with him a lot and know him to be honest. He has more of them at his store.
So I took it home. Do you think this rifle is going to be troublesome or do you think it will be okay?

Should I just go there tomorrow and get a non-scorched one before I even shoot it?

Here are the pics and thanks.

2 years ago I bought my kid a Ruger 10/22 for his first rifle straight out the box the bolt was jammed in the reciever - I called ruger they told me mail it in they have no warranty on the guns (I was fuming) But I mailed it in to not destroy the kids excitement and they fixed it for free but never told me the problem even after I requested to know. The turn around was also quick about a week and a half.

Mine looks very similar. Has 1000 rounds through it without a problem. I just figured it was unfinished and it seems common from other takedowns I've seen.

They all look like that.

It's a sign that the chamber end of the barrel has been tempered back from full hardness.

It is normal.
