Hey All,
Has anyone seen, handled or, even better shot the new 9 from Ruger. I say new because the local shop said it was. I don't know a whole lot about them. I picked it up and all but obviously couldn't shoot it. Looked like a nice piece. Sticker price was $489. Any thoughts, comments or smart alec remarks?

I carry a Kahr CW9 for CCW. I like the size. I like the 9 because I can afford to shoot it more.

Thanks in advnace.

The ones I saw at the gun show a couple of weeks ago were less than $400. I like the way they look but there is some discussion about the size and location of the safety.

I like the looks of this gun as well. I've only heard a few remarks about the trigger being gritty at first. Don't know much after that.

BTW... Budsgunshop.com has it for $398 Delivered right now. I'm considering it for that price.

I handled one at the gun show this weekend. Eh. I was unimpressed. For the price, my Taurus 24/7 is much more comfortable and has given me no trouble. If you have a few more bones to spend, an M&P or Glock would be the way to go.

welcome to THR one thing that you need to learn quick here, is to use the search function. there have been countless threads about the ruger sr9 lately.

I handled one at the local shop a couple of days ago. It's nice looking & I really like the slimness of it compared to the competition and it feels very comfortable in my hand. The exterior finish was ok but a peek into the ejection port leaves no doubt that it's a casting.......it's pretty rough in there. The trigger felt like it was full of sand when I dry fired it (yes...with the magazine in.) and the shop has a $699 price tag on it. Most of the posts by owners report that the trigger smooths out after 400-500 rounds. If I didn't already have an XD9 I'd give the SR9 some serious consideration. I may eventually buy one after Ruger gets some of the bugs worked out (magazine issues are being reported on the Ruger forums).

$399.00

ARK9mm: I have discussed the SR9 at different threads here @RugerForum.com,
RugerForum.net and the CONSENSUS, have one.Trigger "grittiness' which goes away in approx. 400rds. Price in NC $399.00 yesterday at my favorite.
Some where I did read, another state, $350.00 Check around or go to 'Bud's'

For $399 it's not a bad gun, but for close to $500 I would just get a Glock 17/19 or an XD9, IMHO.

Some of the ones for $500-ish are supposed to come with a "collector" knife, but I am not sure that all dealers are giving them out with the gun.

I just handled one the other day. If I had not already had a full-sized high-capacity 9mm I would have bought it. Amazingly slim and light weight for such a gun.

I've handled one twice, and both guns have had a very gritty trigger. My understanding is that this will get better with use. The real problem is that I don't at all like the way that the trigger pivots. It creates a kid of two stage feeling where there need not be one. I don't know whether I could get used to this, or would want to. The gun is very flat, but the frame at the grip seems very long so any benefit by being thin seems to be wasted. In time, and at the right price, maybe, but for now it's not in my sights.

Storm,
Individual taste. Some of us like a two-stage trigger (me being one of us :) ).

Understood about individual taste. I also have several guns with two stage triggers including my main defense gun. The problem is that I don't think the Ruger trigger is meant to be a two stage. The weird pivot causes a sort of hesitation that doesn't seem right tto me, just annoying. It seems to me to be something that shouldn't be there but is. Several people in the shop commented on it so I know that it isn't just me.

If you are expecting to improve on your Kahr forget it. you won't be! Also a thing to look for in these new Rugie's is the rear sight. By this I mean like the KP345PR is it used to capture those two pesky little spring's. You know the magazine disconect and the firing pin block! A truely poor design. A local sherrifs department discovered that if the rear sight on the 345 was knocked askew or otherwise interferde with it rendered the pistol inoperable, more of a problem for LEO then Joe housedefender, none the less an important piece of info not mention'd in the manual... Hope this helps you along the path:D
