I am looking to get a decent reliable AR15, this will be my first and don't really need the bells and whistles just a good scope. Is this AR cheap for a reason or is it just a good deal.........does anybody have any info on this AR or should I stay away and keep looking.

Yep, they're out of stock. Ordered mine back on the 11th. I've got several hundred rounds through it and so far it has been excellent. Finally got it set up how I want. Shoots into 0.40"@50yds with Federal XM193, which is better than I expected out of a chrome-lined barrel shooting inexpensive ammo. My 50yd range is shaded, waiting on cooler weather to shoot it at 100yds.

My MP-15 jams too often. Even properly cleaned and lubed it still happens. Selling mine this week to a co-worker. I'm thinking maybe the mad rush to fill demand left QA a little to be desired on some of them, and I ended up with a lemon. But that's just my experience as I am sure more than 80% of people love theirs and they are a fair price.

Bear, tell your co-worker that S&W will fix it free.

And one of the shops that does their warranty work is located in Texas, so you don't have to ship it through an FFL licensee.

Unless there is a Texas state law on this point, you wouldn't need to ship it through an FFL anyway. Under federal law, a lawful owner of a firearm can ship it directly to the manufacturer, and the manufacturer can return it directly to them, without any use of an FFL to transfer in either direction.

State law can change this, but few states do.

Some shipping companies like UPS have internal policies that make life unpleasant for a non-FFL shipping firearms, and their employees routinely have wrong information and make wild claims that it's "illegal" for you to ship stuff that is in fact perfectly legal to ship, but don't let that keep you from doing what's legal and convenient.

Bear70, if you want to try to work it through, let me know what it's doing. When an AR won't run, it's usually something simple like a weak spring or leaking gas system. When you say it jams, what's it doing. Failing to extract, eject or feed?

I quit buying complete rifle a while ago, but from what I've seen, the Smith ARs are really nice rifles. Your experience, I believe, is unusual.

I've fired probably 500 rounds of at least 20 different manufacturer's ammo, and at least 800 rounds of reloads with 2 failure to eject. They were some weaker reloads that I made while working up a load, so I don't count them.

Rifle has been 100% functional using 40gr, 45gr, 50gr, 52gr, 55gr, 62gr, and 70gr bullets. FMJ, Soft points, JHP, spitzers, V-max, steel penetrators. Seems to digest anything. I haven't shot but 20 rounds of steel case Russian ammo (Wolf), but I don't anticipate any problems and just ordered 200 rounds of 62gr JHP Silver Bear from aimsurplus.com

Bummer to hear you got a less than reliable one. I do clean mine after each session at the range (75-125 rounds) and keep it well lubed.

Ya Bear, I wouldn't just jump into selling it just because it "Jams"

They are sensitive beings and it just might need a little inexpensive part. Mine was short stroking and miss feeding like crazy at first but with new gas rings and PMAGS it shoots darts 1 after another after another consistently w/o any "Jams" or misfeeds or short strokes.

Don't give up on it man! They are GREAT Rifles for the $$

My mistake, saw the email with the same "$100 off or 5 free mags" and thought it was on the $699 gun. Sorry for the confusion. If anybody wants the email still, I have it and it's for a Labor Day sale. Actually... here. That's the "trouble viewing email" button. If that doesn't work, let me know.

My M&P15 has been absolutely flawless, despite my constant tinkering. Several hundred rounds down the pipe and one tactical carbine match, and not a single feed/fire issue. I've only used brass cased ammo, but that's only because I don't have any steel cased ammo to try...

Yeah, something as simple as an O-ring over the extractor spring could potentially fix whatever you're dealing with.

Gee - I cannot believe you run a Smith at matches! Cannot believe it will go beyond 2000 rounds, being that it does not have a Milspec barrel and buffer! LOL! - its not LEFT on "the chart!"

If you want inexpensive...here ya go. CMMG bargain bin AR for $599. http://cmmginc.secure-mall.com/item/W.A.S.P.-Bargain-Bin-16-inch-M4-1402

They also have a chrome lined one for $649 http://cmmginc.secure-mall.com/item/Chrome-Lined-Bargain-Bin-16-inch-M4-1490

Yeah, they might have some marks on them or something cosmetically wrong with them but you'll end up doing that to a flawless one anyways. For that kind of cash they are a good deal. The chrome-lined barrel model has a 1/7 twist too. CMMG makes pretty good stuff for the money. I'd buy one of those over a del-ton or an olympic arms or something any day. If you don't mind spending more there's a million other options to look into though.

Also check out spikes tactical. Use promo code "ARFCOM" for 5% off...

I purchased a complete middy from them and i'm very satisfied with the rifle. They're around $800 before discount...
