I've been chomping at the bit to get my new Savage 14 American Classic in 7mm-08 set up and out to the range.... Today was the day.
The scope is a Burris Fullfield II that I purchased NIB for $100 on e-bay for this project a couple years ago. Base is a one piece Leupold and the rings are Burris Med. height.
I purchased the rifle of a dealer in NH who had it listed on Guns America for $575. I'm really happy with the finish and workmanship on it. The pillar mounted barrel floats freely hot and cold with even spacing on both sides.
Walnut stock is very pretty.
I froze my bunions off today (15 deg. with quite the cross wind) dialing in the scope with a box of Privi Partisan 140 gr PSPs. And after getting it right on the mark I realized that I had the eye relief too long. Back to the drawing board. Oh well, I was having fun.
I was pleasantly surprised that the recoil was quite manageable. Very similar to my 30-30.
I was tweeking the scope quite a bit and didn't really have any kind of proper rest, so I didn't really shoot any groups. But twice I had consecutive shots touching each other at 100 yds. So I'm taking this as a good sign.
This is he first time I've used any Privi-Partisan ammo. and I was pretty impressed with it. The case necks are annealed and it burns VERY clean. Looking forward to working up some hand loads with this brass.
I put 32 rounds through the rifle with the only problem being that I short cycled the bolt and failed to strip the next round off the DBM.
This is the first bolt action rifle I've ever owned and I think I'm going to like it a lot. I like the three position safety on the tange. Like the Accutrigger.
The LOP is 13-1/2", which is too short for me. So I'll swap out the stock rubber but with a Kick-Eze and pick up the extra inch I need.
I had considered getting the Weather Warrior with the new Accu-stock. But I've always been a sucker for blued steal and walnut.
