OK, I was in Dicks Sporting Goods and saw a great price on this rifle so of course I had to research it. That is how I found this forum. So, I registered here and bought the rifle today for 679 bucks. It has the tasco 3x9x40 scope and the accu-trigger but the barrel is not fluted. The bolt release is not on the side of the receiver but underneath in front of the trigger housing which I found strange since the owners manual that came with it shows the release on the side of the receiver.

Other pics that I have looked at show fluted barrels and the bolt release one the side of the receiver (HS precision model). So of course I am curious about the differences. Anyone have any ideas why? I hope to post some pics soon. Gonna start shooting with Rem. 308 win 150 grn. Have to change the scope at some point for sure.

Welcome to the club! I didn't know such model even existed, there is Edge XP and Stevens XP, also I heard about windows XP ;-) first time I hear about FCPXP without HS stock and the price 679 does get me worried. It's probably something made for Dicks and they can call it whatever they like it... As far as bolt release I had same one on 11 BTH model, its made off cheap plastic and easy to break so watch out... Then again you might got 11 model action and heavy barrel rifle who knows... I bought once 111 model from Dicks when Savage was making accutriger on them but Dicks was selling them without one, it was just a Stevens rifle with Savage logo...

Hello DIM.

Thanks for the reply. Yes I read that discussion and that is where that confusion started. These are the specs on the rifle I bought.

308 Win
Heavy 24 inch barrel not fluted
Tasco 3x9x40 Mil-Dot Scope
accu-trigger (have not tried that kind of trigger yet) looking forward to that
heavy bolt handle
Bolt release in front of the trigger guard
no accu-stock barrel (does appear to be free floating)
the box from the manufacturer was documented as a model 10 fcpxp

The description fits the other ones that I have read about except for the fluted barrel and possibly the bolt release. I do stand correct on the owners manual. After reading the whole thing I found another section to the rear of the book that showed the trigger housing bolt release. I have some pics that I will post as soon as I get them on my comp. Can't wait to get to the range and see how this weapon will perform. I will post the targets as well. I read a lot of good things about it so here's hoping!

Yeah post some pictures. Out Dicks here had something that sounded identical, but the barrel was fluted. At lest I think that's what you call it. I really liked it, but didn't care for the scope. I wish they would knock $50 off or something and keep that scope.

Savage Mod 10 FCPXP pics

Here are some pics. Barrel is 22". Scope is a Tasco World Class 3-9x40 Mil-Dot. You can see accutrigger in pics. Scope is gone as soon as I save up some bucks. I have not removed the stock but I am pretty sure it is not an accu-stock. I added the bipod. So it says it is a Mod10 FCPXP but the unfluted barrel has me puzzled..:(

Well, you went and did it! You bought a nice-quality rifle, and now you're addicted. There's only one solution...buy ammo...lots of ammo, and shot the barrel free of rifling. :)

Congrats!

One Sh0t,the gun you bought could be an exclusive gun sold only by Dick's sporting goods.
Cabela's does the same thing.I bought a Savage 10 FCP at Cabela's not too long ago,and it is an exclusive gun by Savage sold only at Cabela's.It just has a Choate Tactical stock instead of a McMillan stock.
