I have found a compact pistol that i like and feels good. But have had some people tell me that a full size pistol would be better to start off with? Comments?

are you simply using it for target practice(full size if it fits well), or are you planning on obtaining a concealed weapons permit (compact if it fits)? If you get pointers from a qualified instructor and practice with what you purchase implementing the basics you should be fine with whatever fits your hand...You might consider renting (if available in your area) your choices before you purchase them.

What kind of pistol are you looking at and what do you intend to do with it are the major questions. I would think that whatever fits your hand best would be a good start. Since your a new shooter consider a .22 Revolver.

I would second a full size pistol. .22 is not necessary - I'd go for 9mm. It's a good sized load and relatively cheap to shoot. Also versatile for self defense, competition, and target practice. Revolvers are great guns to learn on, but either an auto or revolver are good - just be safe and get some handgun training if possible for helping you understand about proper safe handling. Good luck in whatever you choose, and be careful, buying handguns can be an addiction. ;-)

Get a compact XD. Change out the mag to extended and you have a full size pistol! These come in all flavors now, 9, 40, 45, in both 4" & 5" barrels! Take your pick. Then you also have the 9 & 40 subcompact 3" that also has an extended mag!

Like the others have said, it all depends on the intended use of the gun. If you are simply looking to go to the range and shoot targets, a full-size will be easier put a lot of rounds through and will provide a larger sight radius to aid in your shooting. If you're looking for a concealed carry pistol, typically the smaller the better; however, many people can conceal full-size guns. If you're looking for a combination of the 2, a compact (which fits in between the full-size and subcompact) might be the way to go.

I am considering a CZ 9mm. Looking for something to mainly go to the range with. Possibly C&C later on. I have found a compact CZ that fits my hand well and I feel comfortable with. I have shot a Friends full size and done fine with it.
