I took my new SIG 762 Ti out over the weekend. Ran maybe 500 rounds of full power .308 through it . I have to say this is the quietest silencer I have ever used and Ive owned and shot a lot of rifle silencers over the years. I went out shooting at a range the first day trying to dial my scope in but it wasnt playing nice . Being at a range I had hearing protection on because of the rude shooters and I didnt really notice the efficacy of the silencer. Next day my range was closed and we went out in the desert so I wasnt wearing hearing protection. From a 20 inch barrel the sound was nothing short of amazing. There really was no comparison next to my Specwar on my 16" Mossberg .308. The SIG flat blew it away. Ive never heard a .308 so quiet.

Interesting. I've been hearing good things about them. I have an AAC 762-SDN-6 coming which until data has started to come out on the Sigs, seemed to be among the top db reductions.

I was looking into the Sig before I ordered my Recce 7. The Sig looked great, except for the tapered threads. Kind of a bugger to use on traditional threaded rifles.

I think you have the wrong impression. The threads are not tapered.Standard 5/8-24 .308 pattern threads. It fits on regular old barrel threads. There is a relief at the base of the threads to match up to SIG barrels for a better lock but the base of the silencer threads are flat, the threads are straight cut 5/8 and that relief doesnt affect the silencer on normal barrels one bit. If anything the relief at the base of the threads is nice to have for barrels with no relief cut at the thread base. I know I have some .223 and 5.7 barrels that require a washer to clear silencer threads. The SIG silencer will clear any 5/8-24 threads.

I fired five hundred .308 M11LR spec loads through the sig silencer with a 20" bolt gun this weekend and it was the first time Ive ever fired a full powered .308 without hearing protection for anywhere near that long as it became apparent quickly that it was it fully hearing safe.

I think the pic above is supposed to show the internals for a Sig762. If it is, the right baffle stack then it definitely shows the taper made by the baffles near the entry to the silencer having a larger opening, while they taper down so the baffles near the exit have a "normal" sized opening for the bullet/gas to pass through.

I expect that the larger opening would help lower blowback (on a gas operated firearm) too.

While the bullet path may have a taper inside the silencer core there is definitely not a tapering of the threads where it attaches to the barrel. They are standard 5/8-24 straight cut threads. Like I said there is a short 1/8" ish tapered relief at the base of the threads which does nothing on standard barrels but on SIG made barrels acts as an additional tapered seal similar to what you'd find on a spark plug. The short relief cut does make it easier to start attaching the silencer on standard barrel threads.
