Guys,
I have a Springfield loaded 1911 in 9mm that i need to install adjustable sights on. Ive been a huge shooter all my life but have never changed sights on a gun. My question is what is a good adjustable sight to buy and where would you buy them from. and can i do this myself with a hammer and a brass punch or is this a gunsmith item?

For a 1911, sights will almost certainly be a gunsmith installed part, especially sight sof the adjustable variety. If your Loaded model has the Novak type sights, you'll definitely need a gunsmith to install the sights as some heavy duty modification will be needed unless you get a Novak's adjustble rear sight.

I almost have the same handgun as you w/ the setup you are looking for (mine is a .45). I replaced the rear sight w/ Springfields novac cut adjustable sight and replace my front sight w/ fiberoptic green sight. I replaced the rear sight on my own w/ a sight pusher but had a gunsmith replace the front sight for me. I also had him do a trigger job and fit a new Storm lake barrel and bushing for me...big difference and worth the extra $$. I am guessing it performs like a higher end 1911 now and has made me think twice about purchasing a Les Baer when I already have a great looking and very accurate 1911.

If it's a Novak cut it's different than the cut required for a Novak adjustable. Kensight makes an adjustable that will fit without modifying the dovetail.

A good smith can find out what you have, measure your current set, discuss options and regulate the new ones to POA/POI if you provide him a target with a good group at say 15 & 25 yds.
