Went to the range this past weekend to put a couple hundred rounds through my new CZ. On a whim I rented an LCR in 38 special. Had way too much fun with that little revolver and decided I needed a wheelgun. Came home and did some reading on THR and decided on an SP101, 3 1/16 bbl, .357 magnum. Got the last one at a local gun shop yesterday. Haven't been to the range yet but I'm sure it's going to be a winner. This board / site / forum is the best. I'll be spending a lot of time here. :D <-- (me with the SP101)

Congrats, you have chosen a fine weapon. I've had one for 15+ years and I've carried it a lot. The factory grips are hard to beat IMO.

excellent choice! i have had the same one you got for three years now and it is absolutly a winner! mine has been replacing my glocks for ccw more and more lately.

I love my sp 101 but I have got to put some more trigger time behind it as I'm very inaccurate with it. I love the revolver though.

I am a die-hard revolver guy, and have.. uh... a few in my collection. Despite having shot a number of the little guns over the years, however, I have not actually owned an SP101 myself until recently; I picked up a minty SPNY a few months ago. What a great little gun. I'm now collecting holsters, miles and range time. My new favorite.

I love mine! I've had it about 2 months now, DA trigger was bad, bad, so I had a local smithy give it an action job. The DA now is 1/2 of what it was new. Smithy polished the hammer, trigger parts and put in new springs, really made a difference, for the $60 bucks, best money I ever spent. I have the 3" model.

i love mine too. DAO. Meprolight night sight, stock grips. ability to use speedloaders or speed strips. looks good, shoots good, cleans up well, easy to carry and loaded with .357 short barrel rounds. whats not to like. the trigger sliks up pretty nice with regular use. congratulations on a fantastic weapon.

Uhhh oh... You will never stop at just one Revolver. The more you use it and look at it, hold it, use it... the more you will need.

Your gonna enjoy that little gun, everyone I know myself included loves shooting the SP's.
They carry well IWB or OTW. Just make sure you buy good leather for it. They are one of the finest revolvers for magnum shooting made today and have proven extremely durable over time.

Had mine for 10+ years I guess. Shot just about everything through it without failure. Great for CCW and for hip packing out in the sticks.

Had the action slicked up and a lighter spring put in a few years back. Boy is it nice now. The Hogue grips really round out the package for me personally.

Agree with previous posts. SP101 is, IMHO, a top pick among the steel 5 shot .357 mags. Never met (or even heard) of someone who bought/shot one & didn't like their choice. Well Done! *Yep, Hogues are my favorite addition.

I just got my 3 inch SP101 2 weeks ago. I have already taken it out twice and am looking forward to my next range trip tomorrow.

Yep, if you catch revolveritis as I and many of us have, it never stops! Revolvers are like potato chips, you can't have just one!

Welcome to the forum, and enjoy that new SP!

vic,

That is a beauty of a 66.

66-2. One of my favorite firearms. The picture is not my photo though. I do not have the ability to bring out the beauty of firearms in photos like that.

Vicdotdom speaks truth. My first gun, in fact my first several were automatics. Early on in my gun collecting the automatics heavily outweighed the revolvers in my collection. Then several years ago I noticed it was about half and half. Yesterday we were showing my wife's friend who is in from out of town most of our collection to see what she wanted to shoot as we are taking her for her first time ever tomorrow. After about the sixth revolver, I stopped and said to my wife "I guess we just like revolvers... " to which she replied "becuase they are the best, they're just simple and fun to shoot."

So after looking at my collection I realized my handgun collection is now about seventy percent revolvers. I am not even sure when that even happened. It just snuck up on me.

A little more on topic, I have a two inch DAO SP101 that is literally my favorite handgun. It has had a superior trigger job done on it, it has some highly resined and polished zebra wood grip inserts that I obtained off ebay for $18 (they are even prettier in person and last time I checked are still on ebay) and if I am honest with myself, the old boy deserves a tritium nightsight to round it all out. But I have been carrying with glow in the dark sight paint for years now and have been lazy about replacing the sight due to it working pretty well. I have often thought about putting laser grips on it, but they are a bit pricey and I love a revolver with some wood. It just seems right.

You will love your new SP101 I am sure of it. They are rock solid, very well made revolvers with no key locks or other nonsense thrown in to ruin perfection. What is not to love? :)

The action and barrel weight are two things I don't like about the SP-101. Ruger's into making chunky revolvers now and I wish the barrels were a bit skinnier.
