Where the Corps takes me
I stumbled across this piece in a pawn shop in West Plains, MO today. They wanted 700, I offered 600, and out the door it went with me. This is going to be a replacement for my Kahr K9 (my sister is getting her CCW and loves that gun so I'm letting her have it cheap) and since my Springer Mil-Spec is my car gun, it only made sense.

It appears to be CCO style with an extended slide release, extended strong-side thumb safety, a 4" barrel with a bushing, an odd trigger w/ adjustable over-travel (I don't know if it's plastic or plastic coated or what. It's just...odd), Hogue Wrap-Arounds, a Wilson 7rd mag, and a beavertail grip safety.

Now, I don't know what features are stock and which are add-ons. The only markings that indicate a model except COMPACT on the slide. Can anyone shed some light on this? (S/N N346xxx if that helps. The box says "PC9512" and "Super-Tuned, 45 Champion, Blue").

Going to the range to test it's accuracy/reliablity tomorrow. Hopefully I didn't pay $600 to have $200 of work needed to make it run...

Regards,
Lucky

Springfield Compact. they were made in the early 2000's. i had a Loaded Compact back in 2002. traded a police trade-in G19 for it :)

the trigger is plastic with an aluminum stirup...they were popular at one time and i think they were advertised as carbon fiber

besides the trigger, i believe the slide stop, MSH, mag and grips are aftermarket

I like it!

Does it take Officer or Government size magazines?
If you dump those silly rubber grips for some slimmer (or extra-slim) grips you'll have a fine carry pistol for whatever you're wearing.

Turns out those grips are the least of my worries. I have to make the darn thing run. It refused Wilson, Shooing Star, and Springfield mags as well as 200gr SWC, 230 LRN, and XTP 230gr handloads and Ameican Eagle and WWB 230gr FMJ. Couldn't get through a mag without a failure to feed or go into bat. It was THE longest 200rds I've ever shot.

On the plus side the trigger is superb. The arched MSH and long trigger force me to use only the tip of my finger. The break is very clean and perfect for a ccw gun.

Looks like I'm going to Brownells and start with springs and an extractor and see what that gets me.

The feedramp and chamber opening are uber bright. Busted it down and found a recoil buffer. That may be what was behind the malfunctioning I'm going to try it out tomorrow, see what happens.

BFDave, they take officer mags.

Springfield still makes the "Compact" size gun, but it's a Custom Shop's Custom Carry Compact. i had a chance to buy one a few months ago at a local shop, but already carry an Ed Brown Kobra Carry.

I hope that isn't why it was being sold ... :uhoh:

Deep: Would you mind hipping me to your wisdom as to the owner of the given number?

And no worries about ordering from brownells just yet. I'm going to load 50rds tonight and see if I can't make it run sans buffer. The feed ramp is a-okay, good-to-go. Looks just like my Colt Combat Target I had worked over some years back: almost a mirror. :D

I had a Kimber Pro Carry back in 2006 that turned me off from sub-5" gun, thus swearing them off (I was a Glock boy for a while). Just hope this isn't going to be a repeat.... :(

it's Springfield's phone number.

ahh... didn't know that you had a shock buff in there. i would take it out since it slightly reduces slide travel.

Thanks for the info on the number. I'll call them after my classes tomorrow afternoon.

Right on about the reduced slide travel. Kinda feel like a jackalope for not breaking it down from the jump. :banghead:
